Honestly, it's b/c there's no checklist. 20% of Americans are functionally illiterate, much less are civic geniuses. I don't even know what constitutes "liberal" vs. "conservative". I don't agree with abortion but I want to help homeless people get jobs--what does that make me? I want a strong military and to do away with legalized corruption in the form of "fundraising". I don't put a lot of stock in vagaries.

It makes you "not a democrat." They don't want to help homeless people get jobs, they want them on welfare and extended unemployment benefits. The peanut gallery is noticeably silent on the fact that Obama's approval ratings are down to where they were in November. 54% vs 53% of the vote he got. I tried to watch CNN the other day to get news about all the big government programs he's trying to pass right now, but they had a 24/7 Michael Jackson diversion going on.
