So, if Portland does sign Hedo Turkoglu, who would be the best fit at starting PG, Andre Miller, Kirk Hinrich, or Steve Blake?

Don't like Miller - you need a PG that can shoot the 3 if your two main play-makers are Roy/Hedo.

Blake is the sure thing with this roster, he is not great - but he is not bad. Kirk is a bigger risk/bigger reward in this situation. Since this team seems like it is trying to go for it now - I would vote for Kirk.

Miller. He's a pass first, set up teammates, assist guy. Brandon and Hedo and Rudy can handle the three duties.

I agree. I pretty much want to keep Blake. But we must get rid of a SF or 2. And if that means we need to trade Blake and a SF to get another PG, I think that would be better then having a SF flood.

Jerryd Bayless. He would play the "Courtney Lee" type role in the offense.

Kirk Hinrich. Moreso that his defense is a lot better than Blake's. Offensively, he's about similar to Blake.

My vote would have been Bayless also, but since he wasn't there I chose Hinrich because he is basically Blake with better defense and at least the ability to draw fouls.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
Miller. He can distribute the best, plus he's a very good penetrator and can hit mid-range jumpers. Plus he's a solid defender. With Turkoglu at small forward, the need for a shooter decreases since he adds shooting.

This is as close as we're going to be to acquiring a superstar point guard. Trade for Rubio please. He'll never be cheaper than he is now.

I voted for Hinrich. Months ago, when we first started discussing possible PG upgrades, I wanted Miller becuase I thought he'd be a good mentor for Bayless (he's good at driving the lane and dishing or drawing the foul). However, with Hedo in the line-up (assuming we get him), Hinrich becomes my forst choice, followed by Blake.

Here's why: Kirk is 5 years younger than Miller. He's also cheaper that Miller's asking price. His salary goes down as our youunger players salary goes up.

Most importantly is how he would fit in with Hedo and Roy. If we add Hedo we now have two distributors in the line-up - Roy at the 2 and Hedo at the 3. We don't need our PG to be a distributor and run the offense. In fact, I don't want a PG who needs the ball in his hands. I want Roy and Hedo initiating the offense the majority of the time. You don't bring in a guy like Hedo just to be a spot up shooter (like Nick was last year and Martell th eyear before). You bring him in for his passing skills and to run the pick-and-roll with Oden. If you take the ball out of his hands, he becomes much less effective. I want a PG who can play off the ball, spread the defense and knock down open shots. Kirk fits that role a lot better than Andre Miller. Miller needs the ball in his hands to penetrate and dish. Kirk is a much better outside shooter, which is exactly what we need to help spread the defense with Roy and Hedo running the show. Kirk is also a very good defender who can guard 1s or 2s. Miller is a good defender, but he can only guard 1s. I like the versatility Kirk brings. He gives us the outside shooting we currently get from Blake, but with much better defense

I have some ideas on line-ups with Hedo, but I'll post those in another thread.

Bayless would be my choice as well, since both Roy and Hedo can handle the ball well enough and Bayless is quick enough to be a better on the ball defender then Blake.

Hinrich is the only option that list that makes any real sense at all. Blake is ass and Miller is an ass-tastic defender.

Hedo's biggest strength isn't his outside shooting - it's his passing and the ability to run the pick-and-roll. Miller would take the ball out of his hands and turn him into just another spot up shooter (and a VERY expensive one). He's wasted in that role. If all we want in a starting 3 is someone who can hit the open corner 3, there are a lot of guys who can do it better than Hedo, and will do it for less money.

Why pay big bucks for Hedo, if we're not going to use his strengths? My biggest fear with the pursuit of Hedo is that we will sign him to a huge, long term contract and then totally misue him. The surest way to do that is to bring in a PG that needs the ball to be effective - i.e. Andre Miller.

    I didn't include Bayless, because I don't think he's ready to be a full-time starter.

I didn't include Chris Paul, because this poll is meant to be realistic.

I didn't include Sergio, because I'm not Maris.

I absolutely agree. Bayless is a drive and attack the rim player. We do not need Miller as well - we want versatility - no need to duplicate the same skill-set with both point-guards.

Hinrich would be great, Blake would be fine. Miller would be a waste.

Here is a comparison of Blake and Felton from this past season.

According to the numbers, Felton is at best a lateral move. In fact, it could easily be argued he would be worse for Portland.

I dislike Blake as the starting PG, but I would rather not bring in a guy who is just as lame but in a different way.

I noticed Mills aka Sergio 2.0 is not on the list either.

    Neither is Koponen.

I think if Portland has Hedo and Roy on the floor, Bayless could start. If they don't have two ball handlers out there, then I think you are correct.
