Paying Gortat $5 mil seems absurd.

Do you think he's capable of starting? I thought he did a great job off the bench for the Magic last year and their offense ran smoother with Gortat on the court instead of Howard. He seems like the perfect fit in Houston, hard worker, team player, and doesn't make a lot of mistakes.

Him and Scola should compliment one another. Paying $5M for a quality backup center is fair value.

I thought at times he looked pretty good out there, flowing well. However I think if he starts teams will pay more attention and things won't be as smooth. As well playing against Starters isn't as fun as against backups.

I think he's probably worth 3.5 mill per year, unless he has shown more potential than I've seen.

i don't know if he's capable of being a full time starter or not. he hasn't been in that role yet, though he has been productive in the chances he's gotten.

i like the idea of signing gortat. he'd probably do a decent job if yao is out, and if yao can come back then gortat is a great backup to him and they probably would be able to see some amount of minutes of the floor together as well if gortat's play up until that point warranted it.

i like it but i don't think it can being really called replacing yao.

    lol, that's a wicked idea.

I also like this potential signing for the Rockets. I think Gortat can be a capable starter (not anything close to Yao's level, but effective in his own right). What I like most about Gortat is the work ethic that's allowed him to improve as much as he has, to the point where I didn't believe that the dude I saw in the playoffs was the same stiff I had seen in the previous year.

I haven't seen enough of Gortat because he is in the Eastern conference. I thought him in the playoffs was a fluke. Is he really worth $5 mil?

Paying 5 mil for a decent backup center in todays NBA market is not bad.
