When I'm breaking down film or when I use the Synergy software to watch games I can sort by the types of sets Portland runs, and their "Iso" and "Pick & Roll" sets barely make up half of our offense.

I think people notice those two plays more than other standard NBA sets because they are so simple and easy to remember, that is why they say it is all we run.

If you watched a team like Denver play a lot, then you would understand what a predictable set is.

Didn't someone cover this? FIBA would not allow him to play in Europe unless he was released from his contract with Portland.

I didn't say that, but either of them would be able to better guard an opposing PG than Rudy Fernandez.

I wasn't referring to that shot as being more involved. I was using it as a point of reference for the game...if that makes any sense.

I mean early in the season (admittedly before he was properly scouted) he was more involved in the offense. As the season wore on (I'm sure at least partially due to fatigue) he was relegated to standing outside of the three point line.

I just think he could be used more effectively, as he was in the Olympics.

That's what I thought but I wasn't sure. I was searching for confirmation, but I trust your word on it.

I think we notice them because Nate tends to rely on them at the close of a tight game.

Another thing to note, is that Rudy is working out with Blazers' assistant coach, Kaleb Canales, in Spain right now. If he was really "infuriated" with the Blazers, why would he be working to get better with a Blazers' coach?

    Here's a quote from Rudy's blog:

I got you, that makes sense.

I expect for his role to develop. Most players see their roles expand after their rookie year.

Rudy would have only learned about the Turkoglu situation today or yesterday. So it can be assumed that his dissatisfaction started today or yesterday.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the idea of running a lineup with three guys that are triple threats. Any of those guys can bring the ball up the court. Any of those guys can run the offense. It's gonna be super hotness.

That is a fair criticism and I notice that to be true. That is common for most NBA teams, but certainly Portland is one of them.

But why run the pick and roll with Joel so much then?

I realize we run it with LMA a lot too, but I see Joel at the top of the key quite often.

If so, I find it very difficult to believe a "league source" would learn of this supposed dissatisfaction so soon.

Couldn't he announce retirement from NBA play, which would terminate his contract with the Blazers and go back to FIBA?

I do not think so. Otherwise, Rubio could terminate his contract with DKV and go to the NBA without playing a huge penalty. It goes both ways.

No. There is an agreement between the NBA and FIBA that regulates that sort of thing.

Just like we couldn't get Rudy without him buying out his contract in Europe, he couldn't play FIBA without getting out of his Portland contract first.

I don't think it's that simple. I'm pretty sure the same rules apply to Euro players as they do here. Ricky Rubio can't announce retirement from European basketball to come play here either.
