http://www.oregonlive.com/sports/or...f/2009/07/steve_blake_comes_up_with_anot.html Awwww No trading Blakey.
I don't know about on the court . .. but KP has worked hard to shake the jailblazer image and Blake is clearly a part of that. Just like I'm not sure how NBA player's off court discretions hurt the play on the court, but KP doesn't seem to want those players.
Steve is the greatest point guard in the world after this! I'll start a one man riot if we trade him!
I would be perfectly happy with Blake as a back up PG, but he is just not skilled enough for more than 15' per game
Blake has rehabilitated the franchise image...his job here is done, he should be considered free to do for other franchises what he has done for Portland. Well, assuming Portland gets a better point guard.
I agree. Only allstars should be good samaritans. Otherwise, who do they think they're fooling? Let's only focus on when they fight dogs, or bring guns on planes, or wrap weed in tinfoil and take it to the airport.
He was the primary starter at PG for a young team that won 54 games. He's obviously not the greatest PG in the world, but he's clearly proven he can start and play more than 15 minutes/per for a 54 win team. That's not saying he's the perfect fit, but it doesn't make him Sergio Rodriguez, either.
"Daddy, who was that pale, skinny man with the acute sense of direction? Was that the Lone Ranger?" "No son, that was Steve Blake. When he tossed me the silver bullet, he darn near put my @#$! eye out!"
He can fill in when needed, and he helped the team do great things last season, but his skills are limited, and if this team is going to take the next step, he should not be on the court for more than 15' on average. To take the next step, the Blazers need to get the ball fed inside and play better perimeter D. Those are two of Blakes shortcomings. On the other hand, his strengths are shooting and keeping the ball moving on the outside, and those are also important. We don't want to lose our outside threats or stagnate the ball, but hopefully a combo of new PG and SF would take care of that. I am not saying Blake is bad, just that he is not good, and and we need a better starter. And if we do get a better starter, I sure hope they 30'+ leaving some time for Bayless to also play. But if you put Blake on another team, one that was satisfied with mediocrity, then sure, he could play more than 15'.
