If this is the truth then good bye BG. He was a great offensive threat for our team and I thank him for his contributions to our success as a team. Time to find a scoring replacement now. I don't think Salmons can do it.

But you really think he is behind Stuckey on the depth chart?

I really don't think they would've signed Gordon if they didn't intend for him to start.

The really crazy thing is that, if the Pistons manage to turn Rip into an expiring, they'll have added BG and CV at reasonable deals and then still likely have max contract space to offer to a big FA next year.

Team with money didn't waste time paying him what he's worth.

    Really sucks for the Bulls.

i wouldnt have targeted gordan unless they were confident the could move rip or stuckey. and if gordan is awarded the pg spot- teams will press gordan into submission.

Detroit has Prince, too. He can help a lot with the ballhandling.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if they let Prince do majority of the ball handling.

Or yeah, maybe they'll move Rip.

Gordon? The Bulls prepared to do this for years. Team owner Jerry Reinsdorf is easily the cheapest in the NBA, taking in quite a bit of profit while refusing to pay the luxury tax, or retain players that he's not entirely comfortable with.

You've been able to see the writing on the wall for years with this move. It's why the team makes all sorts of moves to approach the tax (like spending guaranteed money on two draft picks who aren't even likely to be in next year's rotation) just to leave itself the excuse to not pay Gordon, a huge scoring threat for a team that sometimes struggles to top 80 points in a game.

Chicago will toss out John Salmons'(notes) name, of course, because most of their fans won't remember that Salmons will turn 30 later this year, and will be about to enter the down side of his career. The Bulls always leave you a carrot, always refusing to smartly spend money in the proper areas while distracting you with the luck of the Derrick Rose(notes) lottery selection, or a seven game series loss to a team missing its best player.

Denny, how do you feel about this deal? Are you mad that you guys couldn't bring him back?

Re: Wojnarowski: The Pistons have reached deal in principle with Bulls guard Ben Gord

The Bulls offered 5/50 as an extension in 2007. That would have meant he made about $55M over the last year of his rookie deal and the five years of his extension.

Then he turned down 6/$54M last summer and took the 1 yr QO instead.

If he got $5/55M from the Pistons, this is the total breakdown:

    Code:
    	5/$50	6/$54 5/$55
    	2007	2008	2009
    2007 $4.88 $4.88 $4.88
    2008 $8.33 $7.20 $6.40
    2009 $9.20 $7.96 $9.50
    2010 $10.1 $8.71 $10.3
    2011 $10.9 $9.47 $11.0
    2012 $11.8 $10.2 $11.8
    2013 ???? $10.9 $12.5

    	 $55.3 $59.4 $66.4

Thus, he's made himself about $7M extra vs. last year's offer. Vs. the initial $5/50M extension from 2007, we don't know because we don't know what he would have made in 2013 under that scenario, but he'd have to make at least $11M to break even.

In short, Ben did quite a bit better by turning down the Bulls initial extension and then getting stiffed by them last summer.

I don't see how a team can become a contender losing your best player for nothing, while hugely overpaying Deng and Hinrich. Then there's always some stiffs on the roster making more than Gordon got. Guys like Hughes, Brad Miller, Tim Thomas & Jerome James (combined) last season. Or a stream of guys like Antonio Davis, PJ Brown, Ben Wallace, Tim Thomas (the first time around, they didn't even let him travel or practice with the team @ $14M)...

I regret the day Paxson became GM, and said so from the start.

If I were a UFA in 2010, I wouldn't be looking to come to Chicago unless there's no other option and I was satisfied to be part of an organization not committed to winning. Plus, Gordon is an excellent example of how they treat star players.

Frankly, I'm thrilled for Gordon that he got out of the shithole of a team and away from the clutches of the assholes who manage the team.

Hahaha this is true, but at least this Wallace has offensive AND defensive presence. Im not saving he could be a savior, but he could be the big post player we need til we can get bosh or someone better and younger...

BTW, they could have solved their problem of having at least one of those worthless big contracts on the books by going into LT for one season and letting that contract expire. They could match Gordon's offer and then some, pay the tax, and then when Miller+James+Tim THomas come off the books next year they're back under.

It would have worked any season that Pax was GM or EVP.

Re: Wojnarowski: The Pistons have reached deal in principle with Bulls guard Ben Gord

Rip seems very movable to me, and I think they're still confident that Stuckey will develop. He's only just 23, and his numbers weren't exactly awful. In any case, I've never really seen Gordon get pressed into submission either. I'd guess him as the PG is a backup.

Re: Rip, his final year is non-guaranteed, so he really only has this year and next year under contract. And he's still a solid player. There are plenty of decent teams out there that would probably like him. Where I the Pistons, I'd be looking to get either and expiring or an upgrade at center.

    1. Tyson Chandler
    2. Chris Kaman
    3. Erick Dampier (last year is non guaranteed)
    4. Marcus Camby (Expiring)
    5. Memo (Expiring)

I dunno... give them a stopgap center on an expiring contract, and again, they're looking at a max player again next year.

Man, Sheed would blow a gasket within 20 minutes of playing for this team :)

Sheed's got too little gas in the tank.

He was a fine player throughout his career. He's good for spot minutes for someone for a few years, I guess.

pressed into submission is a little bit of hyperbole on my part. one of the bewildering parts of the signing to me is that this team needs a distributor to sacrifice his offensive numbers to set up rip, prince, gordan, charlie v. dumars is building a team replete with scorers yet nobody is willing to give up the rock on their roster

In other news, Milwaukee won't miss Villanueva because they have Malik Allen as an able replacement!
