Would you feel comfortable with Rudy/Roy/Turk/LMA/Oden starting lineup?

    a Rudy/Roy/Turk (along with LMA/Oden) starting lineup?

    Personally, I'm not sure.

Pros: Jordan didn't have a pure PG and he won multiple championships.

Cons: Will the defense even work?

No, not because the team needs a "real point guard" but because the team needs a real point guard defender. Neither Roy nor Rudy can reliably defend point guards. I'd rather plug Bayless or Batum in at point guard, even though neither of them are currently classic play-makers. Both can defend point guards and Roy/Turk would provide enough distributing ability.

The better question, IMO, is whether Rudy/Roy/Turk/LA/Oden is > than Hinrich/Roy/Turk/LA/Oden. Or sub Miller for Hinrich.

Rudy just got his feet wet last year. I believe he'll add another dimension to his game next season and be more consistent next season offensively.

Personally, I'd roll the dice and see what Rudy/Roy/Turk can do. There's enough playmaking ability there, very dependable outside shooting. I suppose defensively is where most concern lies, but I'd like to see what they can do.

You have to have a PG defender you would simply be killed by the western PG elite. We might lose more games then last year until we put Bayless or Batum at starting PG instead. It would be a defensive nightmare.

I think if the supposed rage on Rudy's part IS true that we should instead package Rudy, Blake, Outlaw and trade for Sessions and Kurt Thomas in a sign and trade. I used Ridnour as to simulate a Sessions sign and trade for 6.5million a year

    PG: Sessions/Bayless/Mills
SG: Roy/Bayless/sign a veteran shooter Udoka?
    SF: Hedo/Batum
    PF: LMA/Thomas
    C: Oden/Przybilla

    pretty nasty.

The alternative is this, if you have so much faith in Bayless to be the PG of the future then you want to start developing him right away. If all Bayless has to do 90% of the time on offense is look to push the fast break 1-man or otherwise and if it isn't there you give the ball to Roy or Hedo.

PG: Bayless/Blake or some other cheap vet?
    SG Roy/Rudy(will he stay happy?)
    SF Hedo/Batum
    PF Aldridge/McDyess?
    C Oden/Przybilla

doesn't look too bad either, and it is certainly the most likely possibility.

Rudy guarding Tony Parker would give me nightmares.

Steve Blake got blamed for Aaron Brooks having a few good games against Portland. Who guards the opposing PG?

The Bulls had Ron Harper at the point. He was a great on the ball defender .

Yeah, I posted pretty much the same thing in another thread today. Batum was mentioned as an off the bench answer.

I'm warming to the idea of giving Bayless major minutes at starting PG if he shows something in SL and in training camp. God I hope he beats out Blake.

If we're starting Bayless I like Hedo alot better. Bayless is much closer to Harper then Blake or Rudy will ever be.

Rudy is a shooting guard ... as pure of shooting guard as you are likely to find, albeit with some nice passing ability. Asking him to guard 1s and to consistently beat a press when he doesn't have the greatest handle in the world is really too much to ask in my opinion.

Now, is the lineup you propose something we might see at the end of games? Absolutely, but it's not your everyday, all-purpose lineup.

I think that lineup can be used situational but would be too susceptible to fast guard penetration to have it be a starting lineup. Oden/Przybilla would be on the bench more with fouls, not good.

We could definitely run the lineup for periods of games and against some teams you could start that group. If the opponent has a slow or plain bad PG that may be our most effective lineup, especially on offense.

As others have said it wouldn't work defensively all the time. Not only against the quick PG's but a team with good wings could prove difficult.
