He'll come back, regardless of the price, IMO. He loves the city, he's good friends with Bosh and would help our team a lot.

    Interesting.

Supposedly, Detroit made a strong pitch for him.

Re: Charlie V back in TO?

does colangelo share the same degree of affinity for charlie V? i dont think so, this might be some cursory discussions nothing substantive though.

although if we sign him for say 3 years and 21 million; we can still add kleiza, delfino and make a trade for a backup pg like a keyon dolling, all the while not breaking the bank

    Potential Rotation

    Pg: Caledron, Dooling
    Sg: Derozen, Delfino
    Sf: Charlie V, Kleiza
    PF: Bosh, Hump
    C: Bargnani, Evans

I don't mind that line up, From other reports though it seems maybe that if we get Dooling, Hump could be gone, and we did make a QO to Pops.

Not a big fan of that lineup, to be honest. Villanueva's a talented player, but he has to be at the 4-spot to really maximize his talents. He played spot minutes as a small forward in his rookie season with us and it brought the least efficient aspects of his offensive game out. It really hasn't changed in Milwaukee. And that's not to mention the terrible defense he'd play. He's already a poor defender, but at the 3, he'd be a complete liability.

If we do get Villanueva, he'd have to be a backup big.

Klieza is still an excellent option, IMO.

I agree 100%, but he'll get more minutes at the 3 then the 4. He could light it up on a given night, which is nice off the bench, very nice.

he played three in TO. plus, he would be a great contingency plan if and when bosh leaves.

I remember. And all he did was hoist up threes at 32%. Putting him at small forward brings out the worst in him.

I agree with the second point. But it's a moot point now that he's signed with the Pistons.

Re: Charlie V back in TO?

his game as matured greatly. he attacks the basket and if he signed with the raps he would have been the best back to the basket player on team. btw, the reported 5 year 35 million price tag is a modest price. the raptors will regret this!!!

Re: Charlie V back in TO?

As a power forward, yes. Not as a small forward though. Every time I've seen him in that position, he's been forgettable. Placing him at the 3 encourages him to launch threes instead of play in the low-post, diminishes his rebounding ability, and compounds his poor defense. I don't blame the Raptors for passing on him.

Re: Charlie V back in TO?

i acknowledge that playing charlie at the three is not an optimum position for him but in raptorland- there are hard decisions made out of necessity and even harder decision made out of survival. the perennial problem confronting the raptor franchise are players not wanting to be here- charlie actually wanted to be here and he was immensely talented as well. so why not acquire him as FA- start him as a three to appease him and switch him over to the four for the duration of the game. and we all know bosh is going to leave, so why not keep charlie around as a replacement?

Re: Charlie V back in TO?

I like that plan, as I said earlier. But how do you sell that to a player? No matter how much he enjoys Toronto, I don't think Villanueva ever chooses a guaranteed situation in Detroit over playing out of position in Toronto with the promise of replacing Bosh later on.
