Hedo doesn't deserve more than 10 mil a year, this contract better not have increases in it if it does start at 10 mil. We will see if KP knows how to sign players to reasonable contracts soon.

Freeland will never play here anyway, and Koponen... well, he's got some skills but nothing to fuss over IMO.

How dare they renounce players we know nothing about and will never see in order to get a guy who just played in the Finals and will clearly make us better???

Sorry I meant Unrestricted Free Agent signings, he has done a great job with our players who don't deserve more then MLE.

If the cost of landing Hedo is releasing a player who will never sniff an NBA rotation in Koponen (under athletic) and a guy who would at best play backup power forward for us in 3 or 4 years, then I think that's a price I'm willing to pay.

Against whom is Portland bidding? How many teams can give him a deal that's a million past the MLE? Detroit can't. Memphis can't.

Why does Portland need to go to $10m to start?

The answer (as shown in the other thread :) ) is one. OKC. Two if Toronto dumps half of it's free agents.

Not a chance we renounce the rights to Freeland. Koponen, not so sure about.

Freeland will probably start for the Great Britain squad this summer.

If we are in "WIN NOW" mode, then who cares if we renounce a couple Euros that wont even come over for 3 or 4 years? I say do it!

Good point. But I believe we (with Paul's $$) can still be in win now mode and still keep this guys for the future.

Why not light a million dollars in cash, too? Or buy a thousand dead cats and airlift them to the Artic and drop them on the packed snow?

I think we should do things that we HAVE to do, whether it's "WIN NOW" mode (which I still hope we're not REALLY in... our team is too young) or not.

Signing Hedo for 40% more than any other team would offer seems like a bad business decision and it has a good chance of catching up to us down the line. If we renounced what might be valuable assets down the line, too? That's just stupid IMO.

Because that is essentially his market value. We are not the only players in this, and if you are trying to woo someone, a lowball offer is usually not a good idea.

    That's my take.

To beat a dead horse...the last time we had FA room we overpaid a guy by bidding against ourselves. Mr. Miles is still on our cap. The last game he played for us was April of 2006.

I think we should. But I have to tell you, the market for dead cats is pretty hot, and I can only let you have them for $10,000 apiece if you give me a commitment right now. And you'll need to buy a full lot of 2500, I can't do partial orders.

Out of curiousity, what hasn't he done well at so far? That's a serious question. I genuinely want to know so that I can start criticizing his decisions before they even happen, and become overly pessimistic about hypothetical scenarios that could happen five years down the line. I feel left out.
