<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Is this thread a joke? </div> Simply put yes imo. Marion is a Hall of Famer in worst looking shots. Melo should bring out that stat where 60% of his made shots are assisted. That tells me a lot of his game.
too early to tell right now, but if he continues to play like he has been for a few more years and the Suns win a championship then I don't see why not.And there is no way that Jason Kidd is not going to the Hall. He has been a beast in his time in the NBA, and although stats don't get you there by themselves he has had some pretty good ones.
He's going to be. He's one of the best rebounders of this era, one of the best defenders, one of the best scorers...
:HAHAHA: I didn't see this thread. Someone archive this.edit: He's one of the better scorers? Can i say o-v-e-r-r-a-t-e-dI should've saved the page which said 60% of shots are asisstted on
Some of these responses are ridiculous, YES he WILL make the Hall of Fame, he can do almost everything, except dish, and who cares if 60% of his shots are assisted, maybe there is a reason why they dish it to him. 3 years ago before they had Nash, he managed to get 18 and 10. HE IS A HALL OF FAMER.BTW Melo 061, if you think he is overrated, go shoot yourself.
wow. just wow.Shawn Marion hasn't led his team anywhere. Remember, this team was mediocre at best before Nash came to the rescue. So what you're saying is anyone that can get pretty good stats can get into the hall? Get real. And why are we comparing nba players' shots to ppl who post on the site?
Right now I don't think he is. Next year he has to prove himself IN THE PLAYOFFS and help us get a championship.
I love Marion and I think he is an underrated player in this league, no question. He is 6'7'', very athletic, very versatile and keep up with bigger forwards, he is an excellent rebounder, he runs, and he's very unselfish. That said, he still is not a HOF. Why? Because for one, he has Steve Nash dishing him the ball, the world's ugliest shot for a pro, and he can't necessarilly carry an offense and create his own shot. Most of his points are dunks in transition or open 3's. He hasn't led his team anywhere, Phoenix is a lottery team without Nash this year. Marion has impressive numbers for his career, but that's not everything, so does Stephon Marbury and Steve Francis. Marion played pretty terrible in the playoffs for the most part, and people overrate him on the defensive end at times. I think he is a fairly good defender, but getting in the passing lanes and snabbing a steal, or maybe using his freakish athleticism to block a shot, isn't necessarily world class 1-on-1 defense. You want an example? Look at what Lamar Odom did to him in the first round. Again I love Marion and he is the most underrated star in the NBA, but he is no Hall of Famer. Maybe he could be under consideration if he keeps this up, but when you factor in Amare back into the mix with Diaw/Bell/improved Barbosa, plus Nash, Thomas, and whatever they get in this draft - his numbers will most likely fall.

It's too early to say yes, but I would bet on no. He hasn't really done anything that sticks out in my mind. He's a great player, granted, but there's quite a few great players playing now that shouldn't go. He has to do something worthwhile, in my opinion, to be considered that great. And yeah, his shot is ugly, but he usually makes it.

He still has alot of years left in the league, and who knows what will happen between now and the end of his career. He might end up being on two championship teams putting up the same numbers he is putting up this year. Marion might end up playing horrible for the rest of his career, and not winning any championships. Onto what i quoted up above, I really think people make to big of a deal out of the fact that most of Shawn Marions points come from other people "setting up his points for him" and saying that he "can't create his own shot." Reggie Miller really couldn't create his own shot very well, Richard Hamilton isn't very good at creating his own shot in Detroit but both are very effective. Infact, Reggie Miller i feel should make the hall of fame. Both of these two, along with Marion, move without the ball and find the open area's on the court. They might not create their own shot off the dribble, but they create their own shot with the way they move without the ball. It's really the beauty of Marions game, the way he moves without the ball. It extends to the fast break as well, when the one pushing the ball takes off down court, Marion knows exactly the cuts he needs to take towards the basket, and how he needs to fill the running lanes. I feel Marion really is a special type of player with his hustle, and movement.
Just cause he has skills doesn't mean hes gonna be a Hall of Famer.. Like people said earlier in the topic, what has he really done significant the would make him a hall of famer.. He's not really one of the defining players of this era either

He's a very good player, no question, but I think the league is getting a little too carried away with HOF elections and especially retired numbers. I mean as an example, the Celtics have every friggen number retired lol. Yes, we have had some GREAT players, but not all of these numbers should be retired by any means. And as far as Hall of Fame, if a "good" player like Marion gets in, then he would probably be the "worst" HOF. I mean you can't put this guy in that is an All-Star, but not what anyone would consider a "great player." Great players get into the Hall of Fame, not good players. And for people saying it's too early to tell, he is not going to get any better than what he is right now. Sure if he wins a championship and keeps this play up, then I don't know it's possible he could be under some consideration. But at the end of the day, I love The Matrix and I think he is an excellent player, but I'm not so sure about a Hall of Fame player.
Your right, i am agreeing with you that i don't think he should get in right now, but it's still to early in his career to tell what will happen. Marion has only been in the league 7 years, and i am sure that he has a good 4 or 5 years of playing left in him. A few of those years left are with Steve Nash, so he will get his scoring opurtunities. You know as well as i do, that to the voters, the Hall of fame is about championships and stats. If Marion gets his scoring up to 20 points per game for his career(it's at 18.7 right now,) keeps his rebounding where it is(10) and was to win one or two championships, i think he will get into the hall of fame.
