I would be glad if we didn't get Hedo. then KP would explore trading for a better talent and fit for our team. I'm mainly nervous about the whole Rudy thing to be honest, unfounded or not.....in any way, consolidation trades need to be done this offseason to upgrade talent.
I don't equate not getting Hedo with not getting ANYTHING this summer... those are two different questions. If we don't get Hedo, but get something else? I won't be too upset. If we don't get Hedo or anyone else? I will be disappointed and lament passing on trading for Vince Carter, but part of me will be pleased that we're not sacrificing any part of our future for our present. The "WIN NOW" kick that Nate and KP seem to be on all of a sudden--after saying previously that we were farther away--is premature, IMO, and if we can scale back short-term expectations I think it might turn out better in the long run. I'm going to be disappointed if we sign Hedo and then call it an offseason. Simply put, if we go into the 2009-2010 season with: Blake/Bayless Roy/Rudy Hedo/Batum/Webster Aldridge/Outlaw Oden/Przybilla I'm going to be severely disappointed. I can hear KP now, saying that Outlaw is our backup power forward and Blake is our starting point guard until Bayless takes over.
I'm going to be disappointed if people here are going to always be disappointed no matter what is going on...
Don't think it looks it will be: http://blog.oregonlive.com/behindblazersbeat/2009/07/hedo_turkoglu_agrees_to_join_t.html
Oh, I hope it is for Hinrich. If we do something like trade Outlaw for a pick or raw prospect, I won't be too happy. Why? Because if all we end up with after all this "cap space plan" stuff is Hedo, that is a poor result after all that. Hinrich isn't all that either, BUT, coming out on the other side with upgrades at our two weakest starting positions, adding defense to the 1 spot, playmaking to the 3 spot, adding experience, would be a decent outcome.
That's not really what my post said. I do, however, feel that KP has a few moves left before the summer is over. In this order: A) Clear the logjam at small forward. B) Upgrade the starting point guard position. C) Add a backup powerforward. If he were to trade Travis, acquire Kirk Hinrich and either Brandon Bass or Antonio McDyess, I would be pretty psyched.
Ok, so our goals heading into the off-season was to upgrade the start SF and PG positions, as well as the back PF position. If we do two of the three (which I think it the likely outcome), given our limited cap room, how are you going to feel about it? I'd be a lot more upset if there were a FA PG out there that was a good fit, but I think all of them had major red flags for this team.
It would really depend on who was picked up. If it was someone like Brandon Bass or Antonio McDyess, I would be totally happy about it. I'm just really not excited about the prospect of Steve Blake starting for us at the beginning of next season. Maybe the Blazers feel that Bayless is ready to take over sooner than most of us think.
