Game 4, Robert Horry's buzzer beater win against the Queens in the WCF has widely been seen as one of the most memorable shots in recent basketball history. With the Lakers trailing by more than 20 in the 1st half, this shot capped the remarkable comeback and prevented us from going down 3-1, and eventually led to us winning the ring. Not to mention owning Sacramento and their fans once again. Game 4, with everything going against us. Orlando receiving all the favors from David Stern, we needed a miracle to win the game. A miracle came. Orlando choked and miss their free throws down the stretch, and old man Fish spotted up for 3, with the game almost over, to tie things up. Later on in OT, he hit a big 3 point dagger to end the Magic's dreams of tying up the series. This was Orlando's chance to beat us, but even with the help of Stern, we prevailed thanks to Fisher's clutch shooting down the stretch. My question is, which of these shots will you remember most 5 years or so down the line? The shot that destroyed the Kings and helped us advance to the Finals? Or the shots in the Finals that D-Fish hit to prevent us from losing, even with Stern doing everything possible to screw us over.
Mine would be the Fish shot simply because at the time of the shot by Horry, I wasn't as avid a basketball fan then, so I didn't quite know the repercussions of that game-winner at the time. But now, with the Fish shot, I was actually able to see how that team was created and know all of the players and stuff.Oh yeah, this game-winner also sealed Kobe's stake at being able to win one without Shaq.
Pretty tough call, both were great. :O I don't really care about the opponent though, it doesn't matter as much to me who we win against as long as it happens. Both circumstances were impressive but in 09 we were able to create multiple clutch plays in OT as well. Two huge backbreakers in one game. I also feel more comradery with this team.
Good point. I basically started watching basketball during the playoffs of our first championship win. After that, all I ever expected was Lakers winning the championships, I mean, it did happen 2 more times. lol But recent years have brought me down to earth, and I'm more interested and educated in basketball now. This last title was probably more special than the other three based on everything we've been through. The Robert Horry shot was still amazing though, especially if you take the whole game, and the entire scenario of the series into account.
Yeah, that Horry shot was a whole lot more dramatic since it was at home and the crowd worked a frenzy and because of the huge-ass deficit we had to fight through. We had alot of drama in that Fish shot too, mainly the way we were able to beat both Orlando and the refs.
Horry shot was amazing, especially for me since my dad and I were at a party in San Francisco watching the game with a bunch of Kings fans, when he made that shot it was like a balloon was deflating across the room
it was almost like they knew what was coming next, that shot turned them from trying to contend to selling
It was actually the season after that. The season after the shot, they got Brad Miller. I remember they were pretty hyped up even with the additions of Payton/Malone for us. They blew it up after they lost to KG/Cassell/Sprewell Timberwolf team because they were too old.
dereks shots i will hold closer. not because i am more of a fan now, becuase i have folowed the lakers for so long i was just as much a fan then as i am now. its because to me, that horry shot, as good as it was, was a huge huge huge fluke that the ball actually landed in his hands, we were so lucky. with fisher, he has hit so many amazing shots, nobody thought he could just keep doing it, especially since he was 0 for 5 that night, and the fact he is way out of his prime. but he did it anyway and proved everyone wrong about him, and he did it by creating those shot oppurtunities, it wasnt just luck that he recieved the ball, he created his own shot and took it, and hit it. oh gad i love fisher, what a gun.
I saw the Fisher one live and me and my dad were like what the fuck.... The Horry one, I missed. But I saw the shot like a billion times. Ima go with the Fisher one because of the degree of difficulty even tho it was probably luck.
If you're 0 for 5 for three pointers, there's a great possibility you'll make next one, when you're a professional. Purely my theory ;D
This is a tough comparison... I saw both shots live, we won both series and went on to win a championship...tough. I was like 10 during the Horry shot, so it was more thrilling. At the same time, I understood the magnitude of the Fisher shot; yeah, I don't know. Even.
Horry's shot will be more memorable because it came out of nowhere from a backtap. Beating the Queens team every Laker fan hated makes it even better.

I think it's gotta be Rob's shot. Without that, we down 3-1 in that series and probably lose that series and don't threepeat. Fish's shot was clutch, but we don't even get a shot at the Finals without Rob's.
