    I keep hearing about this. Is it true that you can look at every play made by any player? Does that include College and overseas pro leagues? Anyone got this? How? How much does it cost? Is it accessible over the internet? Can that person check out Ramon Sessions and "pick and roll"?

    They cover a lot of leagues, but certainly not every one.

    Yes, with their software you can watch every Ramon Sessions "pick and roll", and you can even filter it by a specific result "made jumper", "turnover", "assist", etc.

    It's not something your average fan can afford. You could send a specific request such as yours and only pay for that.

    The website for the company mentions an online product, but doesn't mention price.

    You won't find a price on their website. You'll have to get in touch with them, explain what you are looking to get out of their software, they'll talk to you about possible solutions and prices. You better be willing to take out a 2nd mortgage.

    So have you used it? If so, how?

    Yes, I've used it. I log games for them in my spare time.

    It's very cool. They ever have filter options to watch entire games w/out any dead-time, or only the possessions where Portland scores.

    So did YOU have to mortgage your house? Or do you get it free because you log games for them? And do you watch it over the internet or do they get the games to you on a DVD or something?

    I am DEEPLY envious. But if I had it, I wouldn't do ANY work.

    I get to use the software for free, through the internet. And yes, at times, I tend to spend a little too much time viewing and enough enough time logging games.

    I wish they had a full-time position for me, so I would have to try and cram it in between my real job and coaching.

    I was real high on Ariza for the past 2 years. Of course, now, everyone knows what I could see in him. Bass is someone who I think would be a great value at $5 million/year. Stephan Jackson is still probably underrated by most, the guy can do everything. John Salmons is probably high on my list as well.

    I'm not privileged enough to get their statistical analysis, but I know they've got some great data that they sell to a lot of NBA teams.

    The real neat thing is, I can pull up a player and sort by isolation plays, pick & rolls, off the ball screens, then sort by makes or misses and check out 50 plays and watch it all within 20 minutes. When you see the same guy run the same type of play over and over, back to back, you start seeing a lot more patterns than you normally would.

    To be honest, what I've been surprised to see is that some teams (Blazers being one of them) run a lot more offensive sets outside of pick and roll and isolations, than people think. NBA offensives are way more complex than I think people give players and coaches credit for because there are so many reads players have to make.

    I've used it before and it's amazing. They offered a beta version when they first came out. I think google is working on something similar for nba games and they have a tool where you can filter video using key words.

    For example Brandon Roy Dunks

    And it would populate any video tagged with those keywords.

    That would be awesome for the public if someone came out with a simplified product for the fans.

    If you do email them, tell me what they say. I could do stuff like that all day (except, well, my family...)

    So what PG do you think we should target Tince? Considering FA/RFA's and PG that could conceivably be pulled away from other teams.

    I don't think Devin Harris is really available, but outside him Paul and Deron, he would be near the tops on my list. I think Jose Barea is underrated on both ends of the floor. I really like his basketball IQ.

    I've watched a lot of clips on Sessions, Miller, Kidd, Calderon, and Hinrich. Based off the clips, Kidd is probably my choice, but he is such a short-term solution that I don't know if I'm right. Sessions was the last person I watched some clips of, and his court vision reminds me of Sergio. His shot scares me because his release is in the middle of his body, which obviously means his right elbow is out. That makes it real tough to repeat and put good rotation on.

    I think when push comes to shove, I think Rudy could play point on offense. I watched a ton of his international film and he has a ton of the attributes we are looking for in a PG. He isn't the best at getting by people, so we would have to have a SF who can create on their own to take some of the pressure off of Roy. I don't think we saw all of what Rudy can do last season. Some you could blame on Nate and the other half seemed to be Rudy struggling to adjust to the physical play of the NBA. I think Rudy and Bayless might compliment each other very well at PG.

    That wouldn't be terrible. Our two most effective lineups featured Rudy at the two and Roy at the three. Top 20 lineups from 82games:

    PG SG SF PG C DIF/MIN MIN +/-
    Bl Fe Ry Al Pr 0.7266 128 +93
    Bl Fe Ry Ou Pr 0.5325 84 +41
    Bl Ry Bt Ou Al 0.5000 58 +29
    Rd Fe Ry Ou Od 0.4881 84 +41
    Bl Ry Ou Al Od 0.4427 131 +58
    Bl Fe Ry Ou Al 0.3956 91 +36
    Rd Fe Ou Al Pr 0.3661 112 +41
    Bl Ry Bt Al Pr 0.3107 560 +174
    Bl Fe Ry Al Od 0.2159 88 +19
    Bl Ry Ou Al Pr 0.1903 226 +43
    By Fe Ou Al Pr 0.1449 69 +10
    Rd Fe Ou Al Fr 0.0886 79 +7
    By Fe Ry Ou Pr 0.0820 61 +5
    Bl Ry Bt Al Od 0.0265 276 +6
    Rd Ry Bt Al Od 0.0000 150 0
    Rd Fe Ou Al Od -0.0260 77 -2
    Bl Fe Ou Al Od -0.0625 64 -4
    Rd Fe Ou Fr Pr -0.0769 104 -8
    Bl Fe Ou Al Pr -0.1000 60 -6
    Rd Fe Ry Ou Pr -0.4583 72 -33

    Key:
    Al = Aldridge
    Bl = Blake
    Bt = Batum
    By = Bayless
    Fe = Fernandez
    Fr = Frye
    Od = Oden
    Ou = Outlaw
    Pr = Przybilla
    Rd = Rodriguez
    Ry = Roy

    The playmaking potential is there with two good passers in the lineup. If you have free time, can you look at Roy defending SFs?

    Yeah, Roy guarding SF's is why I don't want to play Roy and Rudy at the same time very often. I don't like Rudy guarding PG's but I really don't like Roy guarding SF's with any frequency. SF's in this league are too big for Roy to guard without getting really beat up over the course of the season.

    It seems to me that Roy does better defending the bigger 2's and 3's than the speedy 1's and 2's.

    There are only so many teams that have a speedy 1 and a big strong 3. That's the only combination that should give that starting lineup trouble.

    I'm curious as to what you think about Calderon. The Raptors fanbase is pretty divided on him after last season. I think it was hard for anyone not to be impressed with how he played from the bench two years ago and usurped TJ Ford's spot in the starting lineup. Last year he showed the same shooting prowess and passing ability, but they were largely negated by his overly-conservative ball handling and piss-poor defense. The thing is, those two problems were fairly new (I remember him driving to the basket much more before he became a starter, and I don't think his defense was always that bad), which leads one to question whether they arose from his year-long hamstring injury or because he couldn't handle full-time starter minutes over an 82 game season. I think you'd be in the position to determine how accurate those memories I have of him are.
