they obviously aren't going to give yao a max contract right now when his career is in doubt. that would be even dumber than the idea of building a team around scola, landry, and brooks. but if yao is able to eventually recover to produce like he did this season and in the past, he's worth a max contract.

no one said anything about sitting and waiting for yao to come back. the team just won't be very good without him. artest isn't going to change that so there's no point wasting the money on him.

My point exactly. So your opinion has changed from when Yao went down in the playoffs and you still wanted to resign the guy

I was saying then, that there is NO WAY I would extend this guys contract. The predictable injury just came earlier than expected.

Rockets don't have a franchise player, but Scola Landry and Brooks are the best players we have.
To me, building around them means the same thing as building with them
Rockets need a big time guy, but until then those 3 have to be the base

come on man. use some common sense or something.

when yao was supposed to rest for 8-12 weeks and have the injury heal and then he'd be fine, it was still a no brainer to resign him to his max deal(though obviously there was no need to sign the deal right that second). now that the injury didn't heal, obviously the rockets need to wait and see what happens before resigning him(though that's what they were going to do anyway).

it really shouldn't be that difficult to understand.

Your making my point for me

This guy had recurring injuries for the past 4 years,......WHY would you extend his contract?

It may have been a no brainer for you......and that is where my argument began
Even if this particular injury didn't happen,.....It is so predictable to say Yao was going to be injured again......so why give him 20+ mil

and Yao's original plan was to wait until next season, opt out to get his max contract

    Brooks/Lowry
    TMac/Taylor/Barry/White
    Ariza/Battier/Budinger
    Scola/Landry
    Yao/Hayes/Dorsey

Looks like the Rockets won't re-sign Wafer or T-Mac. I have my doubts about Yao. Without T-Mac and Wafer, the Rockets payroll is around $39 million in 2010. If Yao opts out, the Rockets will have a $21 million payroll with 11 young players (and next years draft is loaded). Either way, Houston is in the Dwyane Wade sweepstakes.

NO way Yao opts out. nobody is going to pay him anything if he misses most of or all this year.

    D.Wade or Bosh

i feel bad for houston... before the 08-09 season they had one of the BEST lineups on paper... now... one of the worst with a potential starting lineup of Brooks - Battier - Ariza - Scola - Landry?
