Re: Really: why NOT Odom? I'd also prefer Odom to Turkoglu (and to Ariza, for that matter). He's a better player...better production, better defender. He's also a year or so younger. For similar money, I think he'd be a better choice. A nice bonus is that it would mean LA wouldn't have Odom. That's never the reason to sign someone, but it would be a nice effect.
Re: Really: why NOT Odom? I'd consider Odom and Turkoglu as being pretty close to a zero sum difference -- they certainly have a different style of play and different specific strengths and weaknesses -- but both can handle the ball well for such a big man and both mesh pretty well with teammates. If Hedo falls through for some reason I'd be fine with an aggressive play for Odom.
Re: Really: why NOT Odom? I suppose I'm in the minority here, but I really feel Odom would be an excellent fit for our needs. I'm not a fan of anything HEDO - not his defense, not his rebounding, not even Turkey.
Re: Really: why NOT Odom? No way to Odom. I would rather stay with what we have then sign Odom. I would take any backup banger PF before Odom. Please KP just say no to Odom.
Re: Really: why NOT Odom? I think we should give him the max offer we can, 52 million or whatever we just offered Hedo. I'd expect LA to match and Odom deciding to stay put, but that'll cause the Lakers to have less money available in the next few years which could cause them to forgo adding an MLE free agent. If Odom does accept our offer we'd be adding a very solid player. While he has some weaknesses he's far better than Travis.
Lamar Odom anyone? He might not be the best fit as far as character goes, but he would be a heck of a player coming off the bench. I think we should think about it.
I think we're all overlooking the obvious answer. Odom sounds too much like Oden. Have you tried saying "Odom Oden" ten times fast?
I agree, why not Odom? He's a consummate teammate. He can do it all. He's versatile(can play 3 or 4), is tall, good defender, good rebounder, and is a good passer. I really don't see why people wouldn't want him. Having said all that, I just don't see him leaving LA.
The worst thing that could happen is that we make the Lakers overpay, so I think we should go after him anyways.
LA has his bird rights, so they CAN offer the max. They aren't going to splurge that much though, since they are deep in the tax.
The reason why I thought Turk would be such a good acquisition was because of his versatility, Odom has similar abilities. I don't like his 'tude and taking games off randomly but I don't think he would be expected to be a 2nd or even a 3rd option on offense. This may be a good thing as it could involve Greg Oden much more on the offensive end. I would certainly look at Odom, but I would first appreciate it if the Blazers can take care of their starting PG hole first. Ramon Session and Lamar Odom would be a great off season.
Hmmm, well they get a lot of revenue, and with signing Artest, I think their next mission was to either keep Ariza or Odom. Now that Ariza is in Houston I think they are dead set in a repeat that they will resign Odom even if it means going more into the luxury. What I would love to see happen is us get Odom, then pursue either Sessions or Hinrich(preferably Hinrich, I think he'd fit better) with using Outlaw and Blake as trade bait. Then Odom could play similar minutes to what Outlaw did last year at the 3 and 4. PG Hinrich or Sessions/ Bayless SG Roy/Rudy SF Batum/Odom/Webster PF Aldridge/Odom C Oden/Przybilla
He looks good on paper, because, he has a very good rebounding % rate, and can fill our need at backup PF and SF. Also, with is ball handling skills, he should be able to fill the role we wanted Hedo to play. But if he's really as inconsistent as you guys say, that's a bit turn off. We already have a players at his position that bring it once every 5 games. But the dude really turned it on for the playoffs, so you have to respect that. He'd be our resident "bad boy", and would bring the "toughness" McMillen talked about.
Interesting that Bucher "tweeted" ...not the other way round. Might just be poor wording, but it's got me hopeful.
