We had this disagreement in another thread as well.

McDyess was only going to go to a championship contender, and I think we all know we're not quite there yet. We never had a shot at getting him.

They have to upgrade because the majority of their players are past their prime.

I would say Oklahoma City upgraded their roster this season by simply keeping their core together. Sure they have a ton of cap room they could have made a splash with, but they upgraded without signing any FA's.

I think the problem is that some people do think we are a contender. That's where a lot of the bickering comes from.

That's a very good point. I guess I don't think we have a realistic shot of winning a championship this year (with or without a top notch FA), but I understand people being frustrated who think we're one FA away.

    I have a different viewpoint.

I don't think we are contenders at all, but I also think that by not upgrading the roster we will fall further behind for the following years.

We are certainly not 1 FA away from contending either

P{art of my frusteration is that I feel, I know many differ with me on this, that had we obtained Carter or Jefferson last year for RLEC and a pick or Outlaw we would be in better shape right now because in my eyes we would only be needing to fill 2 spots instead of 3.

I think without the chance that we could have landed a lesser player in Hedo we might have been able to do a little more in the draft because we wouldn't have been working it for cap space. Maybe gone up to get Lawson or Holiday, and then use our full MLE on Bass.

It could certainly work out better for us that we didn't do that, but up to now I don't think it has.

The Spurs are compiling aging players for one last push. We are not operating on the same timeline as San Antonio. McDyess is not the player he once was, and certainly won't be in 2 years time.

I understand that beef, but when I see us being a championship caliber team (2-3 years from now), I see guys like Carter being washed up. A players prime is totally a guess though, so I could be wrong.

And gone off of our roster. Carter would be off of our roster in 2 years. In the mean time I htink he would have helped us gain some more playoff experience, and Batum probably would have learned quite a bit of offense from him. Just my thoughts.

Why do the Spurs need McDyess when they have "lottery pick" DeJuan Blair on their roster?

Why do we need a backup PF since we drafted two PF's selected higher than "lottery pick" Blair?

I never said the Blazers needed a back-up PF. For what's available, may as well sit tight with Outlaw and use him as a trade asset.:dunno:

Plus, my post was a tweak to those who posted how Pritchard blew it by not drafting Blair.

...Spurs, IMHO, will be better than the Lakers [when at full strength]

No frigging way. Duncan is breaking down at a rapid rate and Jefferson may not even be an upgrade over Finley/Bowen in terms of what San Antonio needs from their SF.
