Exactly. Roy and Aldridge extensions should not have been so newsworthy. Partially. Why would Paul Allen and Co. approve of a five year deal for Turkoglu, but offer only four for Roy, if money was an issue?
My first question was, where in the world did Quick and Canzano get their information from? Ever asked that question??
Sure. But KP said nothing in his various interviews today to suggest that he didn't shortchange Roy. I understand that he doesn't want to reveal any details, but the fact that there are negotiations going on in the first place, is bothersome to me. Roy needs to get whatever he wants.
Didn't you hear? Part of the negotiations included Brandon's agent asking that the Rose Garden be re-named Roy Center.
Not much, All the bald little birdie is trying to do is to fuel a fire from nothing. If anyone thinks for a minute that Roy won't get what he wants they need to get outta town! The negations are normal and their only delaying the process because their focused on picking up the best free agent to support Roy and company!
I usually think Canzano is little more than a muck raker who writes his columns and runs his radio show with little more than thought of stirring up shit just to boost ratings and create a little controversy, this time, he's about as spot on as you could hope to get. After reading the article it's a little clearer that the negotiations aren't fully in KP's hands and this could just as well be as much about the Vulcans as anything. So much for the bygone days of SPAM.
Then, for example, why does PA throw money at Euros during the past few drafts? PA himself said that he was in a position to "buy" again.
I think it's clear that Brandon Roy is a top-10 player in the league, any way that you slice and dice the data. He'll get a max extension...the length will ultimately depend on what he wants (3 years vs 5 years...in this economy I wouldn't be surprised if he wanted less years hoping the cap goes back up). I can't say Aldridge is worth the max....yet...but Bargnarni and Varejao got 10 million per, so you have to think he'll want (significantly) more than that. At least 12 per year. We need to get our marquee sign (or lopsided trade) and then sign them...since we have the Bird Rights to do so. Honestly, I think we have tremendous upside, but I am worried about the future of OKC. Westbrook/Harden/Durant/Green/? (Ibaka/Mullens) + their cap space. That's just about as dangerous as what we have, honestly. This is the last year that we'll have cap space, for the significant future, to acquire a player who makes a large salary. We have bird rights on all of our core players, so we can go as far into the luxury tax as Uncle Paul lets us in order to keep our deep core intact. All we need is a legit PG and a backup PF and we're golden.
I'm sorry but nothing is clear to birdboy because they don't actually tell him anything. All he does is chirp when he hears the slightest peep from the "Vulcans." Any analyst, Vulcan or not is gonna say they have to cut costs in this economy, but their definitely not gonna start from the top with their franchise player! Especially after being one of the only teams in the NBA to raise season ticket prices last season. .
Indeed. And now with Artest going to LA things are gonna be Tough the next couple years! I hate to say it but only if PA throws some money are we going to be able to hold our division. .
For those of you saying Canzano is right, remember this: the day after Roy signs his extension, Canzano will denounce it as a bad deal and proof that KP is fiscally irresponsible.
its just quick and cannedhamzano being back to their ole' muck raking ways....it put them on the map so after the happy happy days of last season its time to put the rubber boots on and pick up their rakes. I agree....with jason slows and cannedhamzano running pieces about how the deal will hamstring them for ages....
