I like Duhon better than Aaron Gray getting minutes at G. The question is "where did our depth at G go?"
I think the point is to clear space for next year. This team isn't competing for anything but development this year, same as last year.
imo, bulls are making out like damn bandits here. boozer is the best player in this trade, and outlaw might be second. and they are both expiring. and they have been looking to dump hirichs salary. and tyrus SUCKS. and blake is decent. id rather just sign a free agent and make a trade later, from the blazers perspective.
I say screw Salmons, get rid of him too and clear the cap. There are plenty of ways to get a couple of guards. First, trading Kirk to the Blazers would create an even bigger surplus of guards for them than they already have. And they already have too many. So in all likelihood, we'd get back a player like Rudy Fernandez, Jerryd Bayless or Steve Blake. Or some combination of them. Second, we'd be trading away nearly $15M in salary (with just Kirk and Tyrus) and taking back only $12M in salary, so we could go out and fill in with a free agent or two if we really needed to. The off-season is still young.
We could talk about this trade all day but the Bulls will never pull the trigger on any trade unless we're trading crap for crap.
Salmons is an expiring contract as well, no need to move him. Unless of course you just want to leave the 2 spot open as a memorial to the departed BG...
From what I've read, the Bulls prefer three-time all star Chris Bosh over the one-time all star Boozer. After the moves the Bulls and Raptors made this summer, Bosh is making noises that he likes the Raptors' moves and may re-sign with them. Perhaps the Bulls will be more willing to go for the low hanging fruit this deal represents, vs. saving cap space for a guy who won't be available.
