Awesome. I want the original bar back, not just the sign. I loved that place. Nothing was better than stumbling up that dark stairwell trying to avoid homeless heroin users and human feces. Really. I liked that. Great bar. Stiff as hell drinks. Cheap. Downtown (kinda).
Its sad that most of the good Chinese restaurants are no longer in Chinatown. My family used to own Tuck Lung's (same block as Hung Far Low's) back in the day, but that close in 92. Other than that and Hung's, Fong Chong's has gone down hill, Seven Seas used to be good, not sure anymore...there's probably only one or two spots worthwhile anymore.
I'll pass. I haven't gone there that much, or at all in the past 5+ years, but I've never been impressed.
Golden Horse is where the real Chinese people go to in Chinatown. 82nd is the Eastside Chinatown.. and the Wong's King is the one to go to out there, on 82nd and Division.
I haven't been since I was in high school, it was always are go-to spot on Sundays....used to be Fong chong but they went downhill. now we usually go to Jin Wah out in beaverton. or Thien Hong (vietnamese and chinese) out on the eastside.
I think I've been to a few "1 month" parties there...I think. Wong's King is great, especially for dim sum (worth the wait), but its still sad that the old Chinatown is slowly dying.
it happens....Vancouver's chinatown isn't what it used to be...everything moved out to Richmond....and in LA, the chinatown is still ok but the real action is in the San Gabriel Valley....
The best chinese (or is it vietnamese?) restaurant I've been to in Portland was a crawdad place on 82nd! Strangest shit ever. A authentic southern crawdad restaurant by day, Vietnamese underground dance party by night. Owned and operated by Vietnamese......or Chinese. I truly don't know. I'd REALLY like to know where I can go in Portland to get some GOOD Chinese food.
