What is the logic of assuming a player that hasn't played one second of NBA basketball being as effective as a proven player? It is possible that one of the two second round picks might be as effective as Bass but it is more likely they wash out of the league in two years. In fact, using reason you would be extremely pissed Bass is going to Orlando. With Bass, you know for sure what you are getting barring injury. The odds of 2nd round draft picks being quality players is very low, much less them being as good or better then Bass. Which is now all moot, since we have to hope one of Portland's 2nd round draft picks bucks the odds and become a decent contributor this year. I think there is a place where you can look up the odds of that happening based on draft position. My guess; the odds are less then 10%.
LMAO @ someone thinking that a couple of second-round rookies could have nearly the same impact as established NBA players who have played significant minutes in big-time games. Oh man that's rich.
I was afraid this might happen. That is a great bargin and if KP doesn't act soon we are not going to get anything as good as Bass. I want a PG upgrade but it doesn't look like it is going to happen and backup banger PF is the 2nd biggest need IMO. Bass is perfect cheap and wouldn't mind playing backup. I think we are missing a big chance to improve our team.
Honestly, what the fuck are we doing? Sometimes I wonder if KP has figured out how to turn on his cell phone yet.
Really? Is it silly to assume that a coin won't land on heads 3 straight times? Odds are, it won't, so I'm to assume that. I won't be shocked if it does happen.
This. KP dicked around trying to sign a starter to be a backup for big money when they could have signed a back up to be a back up and still have money to spare. It is mystifying.
Travis Outlaw is still on the team and he'll pretty much play backup PF. Hold the Outlaw suck comments, because that's just foolish to say. He's one of the better 6th man in the NBA.
+repped I agree 100% and am really upset with KP right now. I think PA needs to get a real GM and try to improve the team. I think KP did a great job of building through the draft but doesn't have a clue when trying to trade or get a FA in to help.
He is a good scorer, but he isn't a banger. Since that was one of the things the team said they needed to get in the off season, I would say this plan isn't such a good one. It appears to be what the team wants, though.
Just to reiterate: we are SECOND IN THE LEAGUE in net PER for the power forward spot. And now we may be first, because Dallas was #1 and they lost Bass. Power forward is not a big position of need for us.
Not to say that PER isn't a great stat and all.. but we've been clamoring the past two years for a power forward who can bang, and be a disruption defensively and provide some energy. Any fan can see that watching our team. And what about us putting in an offer sheet for Millsap?
Here's a list of players still available. - Paul Millsap - Carlos Boozer - David Lee - Josh Childress (he has to make a decision before July 15th, or he's stuck in Greece) - Marvin Williams - Ramon Sessions - Andre Miller And that's not including the rest of the players in the league, which we could trade for with our long list of assets. Settle down. Shit. Let them work. If after the summer is over and nothing happens, then bitch.
We HAVE seen them play a single game. We saw them play four years of games each in college. Bass was the player of the year in the SEC as a sophomore. He was a FAR superior player to either of the guys we drafted, and he's got two years of physical maturity and four years of NBA experience on them. It is POSSIBLE that Pendergraph or Cunningham will emerge as a Bass-like (or even Millsap-like) force, but the odds are slim and I don't think that them being drafted should influence free agency decisions. Ed O.
This was very bad news imo. I think Utah will match any offer we make to Millsap which is going to screw us. Oh well, looks like we won't make a move until the trade deadline.
