I'd love to see some of the more robotic posters at a game. They'd be the one next to you "rooting" for the Blazers but pointing out every foul committed by the Blazers that isn't called by the refs, or the mixed box-out, or the missed rotation on defense, or...

but they're objective, so that's nice.

Yeah, my ears. Want to read them? Call 95.5 The Game and ask them about the text. Why do you think people are upset? Bashing posters' opinions without any knowledge of the situation is fun.

Talking points are fun. Prichard's talking points on 9:01 pm PST, June 30th, should have been as follows:

"Hey Brandon's agent, how are you? Knowing that the team has gone from 21 wins and no crowds to 54 wins and sell-outs primary due to the considerable and All-NBA talents of your client, we would be honored to offer him a 5 year extension maxed at whatever the cap allow us to next summer. Deal?"

    End of negotiations.

Easy, there, Sparky, don't get your bowels in an uproar. No reason to be a prick about it. You made the first mention of any text message that I've seen. What did the text say?

Texted Wheeler that he is "frustrated and disappointed", and that he'd be putting out a statement next week.

I can respect those who would rather not react so emotionally, or would rather take a more intellectual view of the game.
But when you bash others who've spent hundreds of dollars, and maybe thousands of their own hard-earned money, on the franchise for tickets, and you tell them how they should feel to news like this.. that kind of bothers me.

I bought tickets to 22 games this year, and I want to see Brandon, I want to see LaMarcus, I want to see the team that I've grown to love the past few years.

Who's to tell me how I should or shouldn't feel at games or to news that our franchise player is "frustrated" with our own team for something that all of us see can be easily solved?

You know, I do actually do exactly this from time to time. I try not to get caught up in the "That was a foul!" mentality too much.

But I am not an objective observer. I do get emotional at times during the games.

I wanted to tear Ariza's heart out after that foul he laid on Rudy, for example.

I love watching the team smash the shit out of a hated rival, such as the Lakers. If feel good if the team wins, and bad when the lose.

How did this get to be a negative?

Oh, and Wheeler pretty much confirmed the 4 year vs. 5 year issue.

    I agree.

I can understand why people are emotional about this (some people are just more emotional than others) but what I cannot see is how people think that it's an opened-and-shut case that he deserves max money for max years.

I'm actually having trouble finding any player other than Carmelo Anthony that has signed for a max money, max years extension in the last several years.

    Not Chris Paul.
    Not Deron Williams.
    Not LeBron James.
    Not Chris Bosh.
    Not Dwyane Wade.

Maybe there are some more out there, and maybe some or all of those players only wanted four year deals, but the market has been established and I am more convinced that Portland needs to look after its financial interests given the economic uncertainty and probable shakeup of the CBA in 2011.

I don't blame Roy for asking for it, and I don't blame him for being upset that he's not getting his way.

But to think he unquestionably DESERVES it? To think that there's no justification at all for the Blazers to DARE to negotiate with him?

That strikes me as extremely odd.

You think Roy was frustrated and unwilling to come see Turkoglu..... how do you think Aldridge feels after sending a contract for Millsap? You think he's happy with it?

Aldridge can take anything and turn it into someone doubting him, which pretty much pisses him off, and this seems like one of those situations.

All of those players asked for less years to see what state their team was in after those years. You are comparing apples to oranges, Ed. Are you saying Cleveland didn't want to lock up James for five years?

Have you bought your tickets for 2011-2012 yet? That's the first season that Roy won't be a Blazer without Portland's permission.

That's simply not true. If Roy doesn't get the offer he wants, his agent would be stupid not to demand a trade prior to October 31st. Plus, fans aren't there for Paul Allen, or Kevin Pritchard, or Tod Leiweke. If they feel the players are being insulted, they are going to side with the players.

    The clock is ticking...

I'm saying a market has been established. Portland should not be expected to pay Brandon Roy more than any of those guys got.

Roy wants security because he KNOWS that the 2011 CBA might rape the shit out of the players and he wants one more year of guaranteed goodness.

The thing is if he doesn't accept the four year extension he might have to sign his 2011 CBA-based contract three years earlier than he otherwise would... and he will cost himself much more dearly for having to do so in my opinion.

He can request until he's blue in the face. Portland has to permit him to go to another team. That's why I typed what I typed and it's 100% true.

I want ONE example where Roy is playing for a team before 2011-12 season in another team's uniform where Portland did not give him permission to do so.

Please. Tell me one if my statement is "simply untrue".

He'll get a 5-year extension next summer from somebody, the Blazers may match, and we're all left scratching our heads after a year of uncertainty. Roy is going to get paid next summer on a 5-year max. That is a clear. Effing with him now over one year seems rather short-term IMO.
