Class move from a class guy. Also, it allows the team to kick him to the curb when it's ready to move to that "next level" of championship coaching that we all know Nate isn't capable of.

Hmm... he COULD sign a long-term contract with a series of team options. :)

That way the team can be assured that Nate is in it for the long haul AND he has to stay sharp to keep his job.

Of course, that would be giving away the farm...

If they get out of the 1st round, he could ask for a bigger contract next season.

Hell I wouldn't want to sign a long term contract either if I thought the organization was fucking around with my franchise player. McMillan is only going as far as Brandon takes him. If he thinks he could lose Roy, I could see him not wanting to be stuck in a losing situation with an organization who looks at key players like stock market holdings.

Brandon probably told Nate that he is leaving and Nate doesn't want another 21-win season. :dunno:

This forum is sliding slowly, but inexorably, into a netherworld of bitterness and insanity.

An upbeat, cheerful interview in which he basically accepts that a rich extension is a fait accompli = Roy gone, who's next? (And yes, PapaG, I have now listened to this interview.)

Ignore the text message he sent to Wheeler after the interview. The Seattle interview was even worse. I do hope I'm wrong about this, but if not, I don't get it.

I'm not ignoring it. I don't think he'd be saying how excited he is to be about to sign a big extension if his rage at Portland were building.

Clearly the negotiations aren't simple and straightforward. Again, I don't really think that's relevant. All that matters is that he's satisfied at the end. How he feels at this moment...pretty irrelevant.

It's because you're too lenient on banning people :).

Imagine what it'd be like if this team actually sucked.

Not really. How he feels is much more important than how you, Ed, me, and the rest of the S2 posse feel.

I have strong views on what Brandon Roy has meant to this franchise. Should I be banned for this?

More important, yes, but not very important, really. All that matters is that he is eventually satisfied financially by Portland. It's like the Blazers being down 1 in the first quarter. Not "good" per se, but also not very useful in telling us the ultimate result.

True, but I'd prefer a 40-10 lead in this instance.

40-10 leads rock. But, in the end, winning is all I care about. As long as Roy and Aldridge are extended, it's all good.

And if Portland also snares Millsap, that's like a, um, 110-90 victory. Metaphor thoroughly flogged!

    No, not you.

But make me a moderator and we'll all be happy... I'll build a bar... and bring in topless super models... trust me, you won't regret it.

Well, for me, it's also how the players feel about the win. Beating the Wizards in OT? I don't think they like that result too much.

If he signs for 4-5 years, he'll feel fine.

It's actually a lot like an OT win against the Wizards! Post-game comments usually are something like: "Well, we struggled, things didn't go exactly as we wanted for most of the game but we worked and worked, dug deep and pulled it out. We won, that's all that matters. Now we'll refocus and get ready for the next thing."
