SLC sources say that Utah has interest in Boozer from: Detroit, Chicago, Golden State, Miami and New York Let's assume that Utah matches Millsap. They still would benefit from a third team absorbing the cap space in a Boozer trade. Is there a PG or SF from one of these teams that we might realistically be able to snag in the deal (exclude Chicago, since we have talked Hinrich/Deng to death). ?
Could Chicago actually sign Boozer at this point? They've made some pretty heft additions lately, and I would think they are about tapped out.
People. Utah will match the offer. It's really simple. Utah matches the offer. Callas a team that wants Boozer, then get's OKC to help them leaving Portland with no FA's and two pissed off young stars.
As an ancient philosopher once said, "Better to be pissed off than pissed on. Unless you're into that sort of thing. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Ya know, different strokes for different folks and such-like."
And why are the two young stars pissed off? They really wanted Millsap? Or they hated the idea of trying to improve the team? What does OKC get out of helping the Jazz by giving up their cap space? Don't they mainly need big men? Who are they going to get who is better than Boozer, that the third team wants to replace with Boozer? And if OKC wanted to spend their cap space on Boozer, wouldn't they have already done that deal? barfo
I actually got this idea from a Jazz forum. Is it possible they would not match on Milsap if they could arrange a trade and sign with New York of Boozer for Lee? Is it possible KP is hoping something like that will happen?
Good point. Unless Utah sweetens the pot by throwing in a 1 st round draft pick. (Like the unprotected one they get from NY next year)
I didn't say they wanted Boozer. I said they could send him to say Miami, and get OKC involved instead of Portland.
POR out: Outlaw POR In: Prince We get a starting three who can play minutes at PF too and a great defender/ballhandler/silent leader who's very versatile. Utah out: Boozer Utah in: Outlaw They clear some cap space and get a young scorer to man the three spot as a backup who can help add some more shooting and scoring off the bench. Det out: Prince Det in: Boozer They try to get by with Rip at the 3 and a legit post threat in Boozer, another low risk one year move for Dumars (like Iverson).
Bad for Detroit. They like Prince+CV and think it would work. Rip is most definitely not a three, and this pushes CV to the bench.
Can Minnesota get involved here? Something that would net Portland the rights to Rubio / Cardinal; Boozer to Minny; Travis to Utah? I know the numbers don't work - as I was too lazy to even contemplate this one! But in essence: Portland takes on Cardinal - who gives us back-up PF for a year and gains Rubio! He'll come play in Portland! This leaves us with much of our cap space to go after a) Odom; b) a trade now or at the trade deadline in 2010 to find "the missing piece" at that time. We give up Travis, but perhaps wind up with Rubio/Cardinal? We dump Cardinal and sign Gooden? Just thinking outloud
It actually would make a TON of sense for both NY and Utah. NY rents Boozer for one year, replacing (or even upgrading) Lee without sacrificing their 2010 space (plus they will have his Bird rights, if nothing else pans out in FA). It could make sense for Utah for three reasons: 1. If Lee is signed for less than Millsap (or to a bigger, but less 'toxic' deal). 2. If they prefer Lee to Millsap. 3. If they are convinced they couldn't dump Boozer without giving up more assets (e.g. NY pick).
I dunno. There are several teams that seem to be interested in Boozer though, and I will be one of them has an expiring contract and a #1 they would give OKC to help them out. OKC is also up and coming, although a couple of years behind us. They could easily be persuaded to do something that would hinder Portland.
Portland can't do a sign and trade yet - but if Utah matches, then we can. Stranger things have happened.
