Why should he do that? Martel hasn't played a full game in a year and all that will do is raise expectations on a average player. I beleive the blazers got railed on for pumping up Oden and giving fans too much to expect. I don't really like the article either, but I am glad we have a columnist who don't just throw soft ball questions. I know at time it may be out of line, but do you want our information coming from Wheels, or Rice who work for the organization? I don't dislike those guys, but sometimes I'm sure they have to squash their opinions because of their employer. If they thought KP made a mistake, they couldn't say that. It would sound more like " I'm not sure why he made that move or didn't make that move, but in KP we trust." Sorry, i don't mind a columnist who ruffles feathers and writes articles I don' always are with.
Roy texted Brian Wheeler yesterday saying he is "frustrated and disappointed" about his contract situation, and that he would be putting out a statement next week regarding it. He also used those words on KJR in Seattle yesterday. Knowing this, your entire post should probably be retracted.
The current product is commensurate to that move. Aren't the Blazers getting the FA stuff out of the way prior to re-upping Roy/LMA? There is no doubt in my mind that KP & Co. will get that done.........to everyone's satisfaction. They've given me no reason to think otherwise these past few years.
Stating facts is "boorish"? Those things happened, and the post I was answering said they did not. How I feel about them being said is another story.
I was a Blazer fan from their inception and will die a Blazer fan. Some bad years, cheering for undeserving players, having a GM I didn't like or an owner I thought was going about building the team the wrong way won't change that. This team represents my home town. There are better parents, aunts, uncles and cousins than mine out there, but it doesn't matter. My family is my family. There are high schools and colleges with better sports progams out there, but I have school pride. There are even better fans and posters than you lot, but fuck them. You're all Blazer fans and because of that I'll always have your back against other team's fan bases, even though we disagree in here. I'm a knuckle-dragging simpleton who is a sucker in John Cazano's eyes. You know what? I can live with his judgment. Loyalty is a virtue. Go. Blazers.
I'm referring to your posts in their totality these days. Personally, I had thought you were a bit more prudent than what you've been exhibiting on the matter.
Yeah, I've defended the team almost to a fault in the past. That defense ends when negotiations with Brandon Roy start to look much more complicated than they should be. It makes me take a different view of things, and some things I've uncovered (Leiweke's statement, rising ticket prices, skimping on offering Roy, no movement on the TV situation) have me questioning what is going on in Seattle. I hope Roy signs a 5 year deal he is happy with, and I hope to be writing how wrong I was. I'm not afraid to do that.
I'm down with that. That said, get back to me after Roy trots out his statement, then let's compare notes.
To me, Canzano "appears" to come off as some type of Blazers fan advocate. Is he really, though? Hmmm....reading through the many comments on his latest column might suggest otherwise: http://www.oregonlive.com/sports/or.../how_about_a_oneyear_deal_for_b.html#comments
I disagree. He frequently lies. He loves to speculate and saves his butt by saying, "many people are saying this", when in fact no body is. His #1 preoccupation is kicking people when they're down or vulnerable. Frankly, he's the worst hack I've ever read- and I've read sports extensively.
Another thought on Canzano. Despite the fact he's a liar, and a cluless hack, he does have writing skills. He could be a pretty good columnist if he didn't feel the need to be Howard Cosell.
Well IF those are both actually true, then I can keep a little more respect for Canzano. I don't have time to scan every single Blazers blog, twitter feed, radio show interview, and everything else like some of you probably do. But that doesn't change the fact that this is all a huge overreaction (just like the draft) and people are just kidding themselves if they think Brandon won't be signed back with the Blazers.
Well because I doubted he actually said it, I found a link to the interview and listened to it myself. Annndd what a HUGE surprise: My post was COMPLETELY accurate, and Brandon did NOT say he was frustrated NOR disappointed!! So I take back NOTHING of what I typed in said "lengthy" (since when is a paragraph and a half lengthy?) post. It was a TEXTBOOK job of Canzano putting words in Roy's mouth, and naturally 90%+ of Blazer fans didn't listen to the interview yet soaked it up like a sponge, just like PapaG (who's posting from a "position of ignorance" now, Papa?) lol.. (And by the way, no, a "text message to Brian Wheeler" doesn't mean a damn thing.) Anyway, here's the link to the short interview. I encourage you all to listen to it carefully (warning: long link): http://a1135.g.akamai.net/f/1135/18...inment&PCAST_TITLE=Dave_Softy_Mahler_OnDemand
