Mac's suck. Sorry, but true for me at least.

No forward delete, too expensive, software that doesnt translate well to the platform (i.e. Office), etc.

My bes friend Erik has had a mac and he loves it. I play arond with it when I go to his dorm and I really like certain features about it. But from people I've talked to they all say macs are about looking cool and having cool little features and thats it. They complain that they are much much more expensive then pc's, and that if a part needs to be replaced then it is more difficult to do that in a mac then a pc.

Someone once told me you could get the same $2000 dollar mac in pc form for $1200, then take the extra $800 and just upgrade the parts. idk if thats true but thats what I heard. Thanks everyone for replies

macs are pretty good and I'm a PC guy. Things like searching for files and photos is much faster.....that being said, it much more expensive and if you're a hardcore PC guy who likes to play around and fuck with stuff, the mac can get a little frustrating since everything is dumbed down quite a bit.

movie editing is great on it though.

Basically the computer will be used for typical school stuff. Research on the internet, papers, stuff like that. Also obviously the internet and surfing the web, and a violent addiction to porn. My Ipod would be connected to it, along with pictures and videos from my digital camera. No video editing just memory for the videos. I occasionally play games, but not really that much.

The only thing that really pushes me away from macs are the price. I know I can get like a decent PC for $500 dollars. Hell the one I'm using now wasn't even $500 and it works awesome. Fast and tons of space, 360GB. But macs are much easier, and in a way funner to use.

That's the thing about Macs. They're higher quality, but you have to pay more.

I use my Mac for school stuff, audio/video editing, and some web development, and it works great. It's great to know that you're computer probably isn't going to die.

I had to reformat my PC every 2 months or so when I used one. The great thing about PC's is there is so much more software out there then there is for a mac. But that same software will kill your PC in a month or two.

So I got a new computer.. a Dell... now here is a new argument for everyone.

I want to protect this puppy but I'm not that great on different types of antivirus or antispyware or antikickyourcomputersassware. So what are the bests? should i just get a antivirus? should i also get a antispyware? recommendations

my school has a deal with mcafee where i can get it for free, like the version you buy. but ive ehard most people say mcafee isn't the best, and it slows down the computer. they say a free version of somethign else is better then that. any ideas?

but if McAfee is free, go get that.

I would personally spend the money on online backup, something like mozy.com or something.

AVG antivirus is free, but you can pay for it and get extra stuff. It's kept me virus free for at least 4 years.

Yeah.. I've got AVG Free, and it works just as good as McAfee IMO... I wasted too much money of McAfee while it slowed down my computer a ton.

Agreed. I have upgraded my graphics card but have done NOTHING else to my machine from a hardware perspective and it's been going strong for about five years. I don't know how or why people would have to reformat hard drives on a regular basis.

It might just be what one is used to, but I can't stand working on Apple computers. The graphics are pretty and I know that some stuff (movie and video editing) can be superior on a Mac, but overall I prefer the PC experience far more.

I've used just about all of the free stuff. AVG & Ad-ware are good. Currently I'm using Avast! and I like it the most compared to the rest. I dropped my Norton for it and it works great. The home version is free but you do have to register your email after the trial period is over.

Yes it is. I had no idea until I just purchased a new Alienware last week. Dell bought them out since they were trying to expand beyond the cheap hardwired systems they were selling, and apparently their XPS didn't catch on as well as they had liked.

I'm totally stoked for my new system. I haven't upgraded in 6-7 years, and I just future proofed my PC with the Alienware purchase. No more choking on Youtube videos and ill-timed computer freezes. It will be nice to finally be able to play PC games again and watch 1080p quality video on my new 23" monitor.

Well, be fair. Dell purchased Alienware. And as far as I know, they still use Alienware parts and not shitty Dell parts yet.

I can tell you have used it for a long time lol still using the grisoft link.

free.avg.com is the new link. And I agree, it is the best AV hands down.

I reformat all the time. Just to get a fresh Windows build on there. But I do a lot of shit on my PC. I have one box that is just a crash box. I rebuild it once a month at least lol

    Anyhow, best deals online. http://www.newegg.com

I've built my last two pc's and they're awesome. If you can get someone to build it for you, you can order the parts on http://www.newegg.com/ and then have them assemble it. Trust me, I have compared the specs of my computers to the cost of computers in the store, and I usually spend about half as much for the same quality. The only thing that tends to bend me over is the cost of Windows, but there's really no way around that.

The other thing that I really like about building my PC is that it's very easy to upgrade it. You know everything that you put in, so you'll know everything you'll need to take out eventually.

Yup. The Alienware service is completely separate from Dell. If you call 1-800-Alienware you sometimes get transferred to a Dell rep, but they will transfer you to an Alienware certified rep to complete any transaction.

Alienware units are not hardwired like the Dell units (I don't know if they do that anymore) so you can upgrade anytime you want with the Alienware chasis. It gives the user complete flexibility with any future upgrades. Plus like Ricky said, they use top notch Alienware parts. They have a very good reputation and I don't think Dell will ruin that.

I HOPE Dell will never ruin that! Alienware are freaking awesome. I can't afford one, but I have seen a few in my day and OMG they are sweet.

Mine's an Acer I bought at Costco for less than a grand. I recently cracked the screen, and because that's not supposed to be covered under the warranty, I took it to a local guy to fix. Turns out the guy was a little bit over his head on this one, so when he got it back together he couldn't get the power back on. I sent it in to the Service Center, knowing full well that they would wipe the hard drive at the drop of a hat if necessary, and I couldn't back up my data because I couldn't turn the danged thing on. They replaced the power switch board, and, for some reason, they replaced the replacement screen with a new factory screen at no additional charge. I had my laptop back, working better than ever, all data intact, in less than two weeks.
