Me too. Bayless is a great kid and he could be a real star for us if he works hard and keeps improving his game.

Thanks for the link, I really enjoyed the video. In that interview, he really seemed like a different person.

The true test will be when he hits adversity this season. I think he has the talent to be a major player on this team for a long time.

This is one of the more encouraging Blazer moments i've experienced this offseason. Bayless can be as big a force in this League as he wants. Can't wait to watch him compete this year!

Love that quote by Nate. I'm glad they're not going to try to seemingly fit a square peg into a round hole. Just let Jerryd be Jerryd, and let him do what he does best, but make him aware of other things other than scoring.
I hope Bayless makes a big leap this season.

The game @ New Jersey last year showed me he has a future as a legitimate NBA player. Where he plays is an entirely different conversation.

Ah, got it. I can't wait for Jerryd to break out, and then maybe we can lowball him with a two-year extension offer when he wants to be here for four years. :ghoti:

He certainly seems to be saying the right things... of course he did last year, too. :)

All things considered, of course it's a great attitude for him to take and hopefully he's pointed in the right direction emotionally... because he's going to work hard whichever way he's facing.

Reading that made me wonder something. What's the difference between a pick and roll and a screen? Just that the player that sets the screen doesn't roll to the basket?

Yay, I am so happy Jerryd learned how to run a break from Blake. He learned to drift to the corner instead of attaking and drawing fouls.

    This team just got worse.

You missed his point. If you play PG in Porland you need to leard how to play "with Roy". You don't want Roy drifting to the 3 pt line. He can still penetrate when the ocassion presents itself.

The Rudy expermeriment will be interesting. If it works you do not need another high priced PG. Bayless, Rudy and Blake will be just fine. They may want to wait in spending their money until they know for sure. (Assuming Utah matches)

First of all, Utah will match. I think it's funny that there is a group of people that think they won't. That same group also thinks Portland is going to end up with something out of this.....they won't

Secondly, Bayless played great with Roy on the rare instance he was able to. He played great in the Jersey game, and in that game he attacked the basket a lot.

if Portland doesn't sign Millsap to this offer sheet, the division rival Jazz resign their stud young PF for much less. Doing so probably forces their hand on other roster questions. You can laugh, but this move is a smart one regardless of whether Utah matches.

First, I really like Bayless. As a player and a person- he's legit.

Second, I don't see him having much of a career in the NBA. I think he'll drift around, maybe find a team to start on a bit...

He's an undersized SG who probably will never learn to be a true PG. He's a true "tweener", and unless he finds the exact situation with a team, he'll just be one of those talented players that doesn't fit into any role.

Nate has stated repeatedly that he wants a PG who can run the team, effectively run various pick & rolls and push the ball effectively (meaning get a defense on it's heels and thereby creating mismatches off the break, as well as penetrating the paint and making the right decision to either go to the hoop or dishing to the open man)- so far, Bayless has shown he can't do any of those.

Does that mean he can't learn? No, he can learn all those skills, but can he learn tham all well enough to lead a team to the very upper echelon of the NBA? Very unlikley.

I hope the best for him, I really do, but I think he'll be an NBA journeyman player.

I'm a bit more optimistic than you, in that I believe he can become a valuable 6th-man type. Becoming at least an average NBA starting PG? I agree with you - that is not a basket I want to risk all my eggs in!

I never said it was a dumb move, nor did I laugh at the move. I said it was funny that there are people out there that think they won't match, and even if they do, Portland is going to benefit somehow.

It forces Utah to trade Boozer now rather than later. That's really all it does. Losing him, and replacing him with Millsap doesn't really hurt their team very much. Because they will more than likely have to take some players back for Boozer, actually helps them.
