Can Marijuana be used therapeutically to calm one down (like a drinking scotch)?

Like to calm one down or make one focus more? I've been smoking weed more and more lately and found that it really hasn't affected my performance, actually makes me more get-go with stuff.

granted, I don't smoke a lot....but it seems to have a chilling effect and I'm not such an agressive A-hole.

everybody reacts differently, you obviously are one of the few that it actually motivates rather than subdues...The strain of the weed itself can make a difference too. It easily makes people less agitated

Actually I tend to think things over a lot more, when hitting the green. I have found production variances though. If it is something I like to do, production will go up. If it is something I don't like to do, production will go into the sewer. It just accentuates what thoughs are already there. :)

In the words of Joe Rogan: "You can get so high that you forget to call your girlfriend. But you can never get so high that you forget to use a phone. You can get so high you have sex with a woman other than your wife. But you can never get so high that you will tell her. "

I have found I never sleep sounder then when smoke out, and it makes a better rest of the next day. It's just stupid that it is illegal at all.

I have been drinking less for the past 2-3 years. More socially with the occasional binge when I go to vegas or something.

As with anything, it is best used in moderation. If it begins to consume all of your thoughts to get high, then you have a problem. Also, if you grow dependent on it to function, that is also a problem. If you are thinking "man, I can't do this without being high" you've got issues. Just know when to say when. Ideally, you should be able to train your mind to be "more calm" and "more focused" without using.

Here is a great quote from one of my favorite singers ever, Maynard James Keenan of Tool and Perfect Circle. Nothing could be closer to the truth:

Currently I'm working with my 14 year old nephew that he shouldn't smoke weed. It's hard because I know if he used it responsibly, it wouldn't be a big deal. But his problem is that he can't use it and function properly (eg. go to school, get good grades, listen to his grandmother). He's 2 totally different people when he's sober vs. high. He doesn't have the mental strength or personal responsibility to function while high. Long story short, he's not mature enough to use it responsibly.

I LOVE a good bong hit every now and then. Hate shitty weed. Only smoke the kind. Cut down a LOT in recent years.

I am one of those ppl who weed gets motivated and I get up and do shit. But Rizzle is right. There are certain types of weed that make you feel different. TONS of different strands.

Strands definitely have a huge effect on my mood after smoking.

I smoke quite frequently, at least five times per week, and my experiences vary each session. Sometimes I'll feel really motivated and I'll want to go out and do something productive. Other times I'll feel completely burnt out and lazy and I'll just want to stay in the same spot and pretty much waste the whole day away. Generally, my personality is positively affected by herb and I won't get as agitated or angered as I usually do (I'm not saying that I'm a complete maniac when I don't smoke).

It's different for everyone so I can only speak for myself. In that case, yes, it can be used to calm one (me) down.

To answer the OP's question, I think it's only if given a prescription, since I think it's illegal--at least, according to US Department of Justice. :)
