As an outsider to soccer but living close to the Galaxy team it always seemed like Beckham was only here for the money and had no real interest in giving 100%...always had different shit to do...or injuries, or wanting to play for another team

Yup, that's 100% correct. There's no other reason for him to go to California. I do believe Donovan is a bit sour because he's "stuck" in the MLS and Beckham is so much more successful--Only stating the facts.

Well its like Beckham is mocking Donovan and the MLS with his blah attitude...I dont follow soccer but I know the MLS sucks when it comes to talent but at least fake it Beckham. The Galaxy gave him a shitload of money to try to get Americans to care about soccer....thats hard to do when he obviously doesnt even care about it.

It was so obvious when he came...he wasnt the best player in the world anymore and just wanted the fattest check he could get...Its like when retired NBA players go off to Europe to play cause their name will spark interest even though they are a shell of their former athletic selves. At least it seemed obvious to me.... (he hadnt gotten that bad, but u get my point)

He is definitely beginning to wash-out but you probably expect that when you reach your mid-thirties.

Also, I would like to note that he was never the best player in the world! Don't ever let me hear you say that again, DaRizzle! :)

Not really, Beckham never won the Ballon d'Or (got a second place in 99) or the FIFA World Player of the Year award (second place in 99 and 2001).

Nope, he was never the "best player in the world." He may of been the most well-known player in the world, though. There's no denying that he was a fantastic player though.

Beckham was the right personality for the experiment, but entirely the wrong player. Beckham does things on the field that not too many people can do. However, a pin point 40-yard cross-pitch pass is only impressive to someone who knows the game. He was never going to be able to keep people interested in the sport. He has been great for one-time viewership as the Galaxy sell out both home and away because of him, but he was not going to show anyone who doesn't already appreciate the game why everyone in the world loves the sport.

Whenever Theirry Henry moves over to New York (and that is going to happen), you'll see the right player, but he doesn't have the name to match Beckham.

Yup, that's exactly right. What about a Ronaldinho or Ronaldo (not the pretty boy) move?

If I felt that Ronaldinho could be relied upon for a solid commitment to American soccer, yes. But I think that's fairly unlikely, so no.

Ronaldo just doesn't have it like that anymore. Injuries have limited him to being a brilliant goal scorer, but not a brilliant footballer.

Henry has a shot at doing it. As for other players to keep an eye on for the distant future, Kaka, Rooney, and Gerard could take that pressure. Kaka and Rooney are the flashier players, while Gerard plays in a way that appeals to the American common-man sensibilities, but does it at an incredibly high level.

Actually Henry is thinking about moving to U.A.E. and playing Football there for some club. He wants to do it for one reason make his religious views stronger which is a Muslim, that is what I've heard from the French media. But I can also seeing Henry coming to New York since I've heard has a condo there.

People thought Henry was a Muslim because he got on his hands and knees and kissed the Highbury ground but that was because it was the last game on that ground. I don't know if he's really Muslim. Link?

I know almost everything about Henry as he is my favorite player of all-time. He's still one of the best players to ever brace the game, in my opinion.

He said it in an interview he practices Islam and views himself as a Muslim, he was talking about this in the interview when he was fighting racism in Europe for Football. I shall try to find it.

You do have to realize Zidane is Muslim and when he was playing for the French team a lot of his teammates converted to Islam, just like Nicolas Anelka and a lot more. That's how Henry found out about Islam was through Zidane.

I know this. You'll find that I know a lot about football, Mixx. I am not completely oblivious to the game that I grew up with.

Alright, I never underestimated you. I wouldn't talk to you about Football if you didn't know it. But to me it doesn't matter what religion the footballer is as long as he is playing with his heart to help his country or club win and achieve glory. Do you agree?
