Denver, a team Portland tied in record and had a superior point differential to. Sounds pretty "caught up," especially since so many of Portland's key players are pre-prime and most of Denver's key players are prime or close to it.

PER measures offensive production, not defensive production. Zach is a very gifted offensive player. He is also a shitty defender. Blake is a poor defender also, and according to PER he is a below average offensive PG as well.

And YOU were the only one to bring up make a move JUST to make a move. There are possitions that need to be improved.

    Concentrate there buddy...

He said we needed a back up PF. KP is trying to get one. And a pretty good one at that. He's trying to make a move which is the crux of the argument. Please follow the conversation more carefully.

    He said BELOW average

Again, please read the thread more carefully.

I'm not saying we can't improve. I'm arguing against the "Everyone else is making moves, KP is a failure" crowd.

To be fair, I don't blame you for not being able to follow the conversation as the others keep moving the line.
I'm now defending Steve Blake for some reason in a thread about KP not making moves. (Well, sort of)

Mourning and Hardaway = veterans in their primes

Oden, Aldridge, Roy, Batum, Bayless, Rudy = young players varying distance away from their primes

Despite that, Portland had the second-best point differential in the West and won 54 games. Doesn't sound anything like those Miami teams to me.

You are arguing Blake because you said Portland had a limited number of moves to make. I brought up, with statistical backing that PG was a possition they needed to upgrade because Blake is not a starting quality PG on a contending team.

Maybe I could follow this thread a little better if it was actually about the signing itself. I would also probably follow it better if people like you were not having over the top reactions to someone stating a slightly different take on things. Calling someone's marginally different opinion on where this team is at a "steaming pile of shit" doesn't exactly lend itself to a coherent discussion.

That being said, I'm not of the opinion that we need to sign someone just because everyone is doing it. I think we need to upgrade a few spots and am disappointed we have not found a way to do that yet.

McGrady isn't Houston's best player. Yao is, easily.

Yeah, you are probably right about that... but I still think the point is valid. They were not at full strength and we had home court.

I guess maybe I'm one of the few that felt like we overachieved and caught some breaks during the regular season last year. I'm surprised at the number of folks who think we don't need any more starting talent on this roster.

I think it's disproportionately loud on that side. Some of us who think starting talent upgrades are required have said our peace, and don't have a lot to say until the season starts or new talent arrives. :dunno:

By that argument, Houston will never be "at full strength" again. I like McGrady a ton, but his career as an impact player seems over due to injuries. I sincerely doubt Houston ever expects to have the McGrady of a few years ago back.
