If I were the Jazz and I matched that contract, I'd drop off the $10.3MM at Millsap's house in pennies.

that seems nuts to me that they'd have to take out a bank loan to be able to match, kinda scary actually.

i'm sure they're financially healthy and can pay off the loan and are good for the money, but damn that is an insane thought to me.

I don't think it's a revenue issue, but rather a cash flow one. The NBA has a line of credit open for all franchises to fund losses.

I didn't know that part about the offer. That was a pretty shrewd move by the Blazers. With the economy in the shape that it's in it can't be easy to come up with that kind of liquid cash within a week. I'm sure it the info was posted before, but I guess I never paid attention to it...

It's been mentioned and discussed...the problem is that Utah will be receiving slightly over $10 million from luxury tax distribution and, I believe, escrow fund money that is distributed to all NBA teams.

So liquidity shouldn't be a problem. It still comes down to whether they feel they can afford the contract this year and afford to give up that $10 million right now.

That may be, but will they be receiving it by Friday? Timing is everything.

They have a week to come up with the cash after matching. But even if they don't receive it by a week from Friday, there's been talk of a loan. I think it would be fairly easy for them to get a short-term loan considering that they can cover it within a few weeks. In fact, I believe they can that loan directly from the league...the league has established a line of credit that teams can use.

First of all, I don't post on this board very often. I usually hang out at OLive, but may be switching here because the format is better. So, if the quotes are all messed up, I am trying to figure out how to use the tabs.

What I don't understand from Jazz fan's perspective is, how can they think this is a bad deal for Millsap. He is a starting quality PF in this league. He plays as good of defense as most PF's in this league. He is only going to be making between 7 and 8 mil a year. I hope they don't match, but I believe that they will. To me it's a no-brainer.

BTW - please quit posting links to their forums and comments. When I see so many fans arguing not to match Millsap's offer, I start to think just maybe they won't match and we will get him. The more I think that, the more I care. The more I care, the more disappointed I will be when they do match.

I agree - Millsap is worth that salary. I hope they do not match - but I will not be surprised if they do.

Oh well, you can never do anything if you never try - at least the Blazers are trying.

I'm starting to understand the "bullying" comment that came out of the Utah camp. These guys just aren't playing in the same financial league as Paul Allen, and they know it.

It's pretty embarrassing when you have to get a loan just to keep your own players.

That's okay, there's plenty of "black boys" in the league already.
