So, during sports graffiti a called said there is a rumor on ESPN that would send Bayless/Cunningham to New Jersey. Anyone else see this 'rumor'?
Yes I heard it on Wheels. The caller said Bayless and Cunningham for New Jersey's MLE. How does that work? You can't trade the MLE, but you could sign and trade a player using your MLE. We already have more than the MLE, so we could just sign that player ourselves.
One of the very few Bayless trades I would be ok with. Bayless by the way singlehandedly beat NJ in NJ last year.....Just food for thought No, I have not seen the rumor.
The guy said Bayless/Cunningham to NJ for the MLE. Which makes no sense. But w/e, that's what was said.
Trading two guys for the Mid Level Exception? I doubt Portland would go out and get more money to sign someone when they can't seem to use the money they current have.
He would need to have the rest of the summer to use the MLE. If he ended up with nothing then he would probably get canned.
That's a relief. If there is one thing we know for a fact it's that KP knows how to use cap money. I don't even think you can trade a MLE for players?
I just looked on ESPN and saw nothing. I'm pretty sure this caller read this off of the NJ Nets forum on ESPN and took what he read literally.
Man, people should read the CBA or at least Larry Coon's CBA FAQ page, then this kind of tripe wouldn't even see the light of day. The MLE can only be used by teams over the cap to sign FAs. It can't be used in a trade. Period. End of story.
Why is anybody even considering this. As soon as I heard that I would have just been, "Ok stupid ass caller again who has no clue.".
Teams can sign and trade their own FA using a Bird exception and trade them right away. If a team uses the MLE to sign a FA,, they can't trade them for 3 months or until Dec. 15th (I believe it is), whichever is later. Neither of the players the Blazers are rumored to be giving up are FAs so this report is BS.
That caller's info reminds me of this exchange: Brian Fantana: "60% of the time, it works every time." Ron Burgundy: "That doesn't make any sense."
Joe Theismann actually said something similarly incoherent as a commentator for a football game. Something like, "90% of the time, when you outscore your opponent, you usually win."
