Evidently, Steve Patterson is not a very generous tipper.

Not for nothin, but there is a well-to-do businessman that lives in LO that looks like the spitting image of Patterson. Came into my dad's restaurant alot, I actually approcahed him one time thinking he WAS Patterson. Guy was about 6'0... Apparently Patterson's alot taller?

Not saying thats who you saw, but to my knowledge, Patterson moved to Houston(? -- that sounds right) awhile back.

Anyway... Could definitely have been him... He still has business interests here... Coulda been his LO twin...

    Not that it matters.

Patterson hadn't moved to Houston as of the regular season. His son is/was a ball boy.

Did he hire John Nash? Did they both get fired? Does Patterson have another job in the NBA like the one he had in Portland?

yes, that was his 3rd choice
technically neither was fired. Nash's contract wasn't renewed & Patterson resigned midseason out of the blue
no, but he earned millions during his time as an NFL and NBA exec and walked away from his last job so I'm not too worried about his well-being. I think he had a mixed bag of results during his time in Portland so I'm not contending he's the greatest or anything along those lines, but he did have his positive moments... I confess to enjoying his distain for Quick and Canzano. Anyhoo, since we had a few bagging on him I thought I'd chime in with the other side of the coin.

btw... remember when he toyed with Steven A. Smith?

Honestly, I'm just trying to forget that Patterson was ever a part of the Blazer organization. He had the anti-Midas touch. Everything he touched turned to poo. At least that is how I see those years. I can't believe, looking back, that I was optimistic or that I even watched all of the games (which I did).

remind yourself... he hired KP, as President/GM of the Blazers he traded Telfair and the #5 for Aldridge and Roy, made fun of the local and national press clowns, and resigned right on time. Thats not poo. His eyebrows were weird and he didn't seem like someone I'd like to hang out with, but at least we can point to some positives

If anyone deserves our distain from that era it's John Nash. Maybe it's the returning of Joe Fan's emails that keeps him from catching the blame he deserves, but Nash unequivocally sucked bunions as a GM. I'm happy with the way things eventually worked out and all, but in his time to shine dude wiffed in almost every regard. With the benefit of hindsight, the afterthought of signing a washed up Joel Pryzbilla was his lone redeeming move.

He hired his replacement. His reward? His son is a a ball boy.

    .

You actually think he "resigned". He wasn't going to be renewed. He knew this. He was a a disaster to work for, and I know this because a good friend worked for him.

    Irrelevant

Patterson let Nash run the show. Or he didn't. Either way, it was a disaster, and Patterson's "people skills" alienated pretty much everyone involved with the team.

Defending him seems like arguing for the sake of arguing. Pritchard made the draft moves; Patterson was a lame duck, and everybody knew it.

dude is a multimillionaire in his golden years... wouldn't your boy like to be a Blazer ball boy? Wouldn't you love that too?

Here's his bye-bye... "With my contract soon to expire and after discussions with Paul and Tod concluded this was simply the right time to step away," said Patterson. "I take great pride in what we achieved during my time in Portland and am confident we have placed this organization on a path that will result in success for many years to come."

Once Nash was out, the clouds parted and I started agreeing with their decisions... time passing has made this impression seem true.
According to Pritchard himself, he, Nate, SP, and the scouting department decided on their targets prior to draft day 2007. But it was solely Patterson who worked the phones/executed the moves on the day of business. There was a lot of finessing done that day... KP's words were that he "was in awe" at SP's wheeling and dealing. Pretend otherwise all you want, thats the record.
