OT?-Jazz re-sign free agent Price

SALT LAKE CITY (AP)—The Utah Jazz have re-signed reserve point guard Ronnie Price(notes).

Price, who was an unrestricted free agent after spending two seasons with the Jazz, signed on Tuesday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Price averaged 4.0 points and 2.1 assist in 52 games last season. He and rookie Eric Maynor(notes) will back up starter Deron Williams

Does this effect the Jazz luxury tax or was he already priced in?

I like Price . . . he makes a good back up PG.

 

Hm. Maybe another $2m more in salary and the same in tax.

This just tells me they are super confident that they'll be able to move Boozer before the February deadline at the latest and probably already have some very serious offers taking shape right now. My guess is that they'll move him for another expiring contract and bring in a third team like OKC to help eat up some salary if they are really serious about trimming payroll for the year, but bottom line there's no way they will be on the hook for luxury tax at the end of next season.

 

They'll still be in lux tax if Boozer is traded. It's just how much that's in question.

 

I agree, that Utah will be able to move Boozer.

I would love to see the league pull off a sort of Memphis move and nobody trade for Boozer . . . wouldn't that put money in every owner's pocket. Just like signing Miles put money in all teh owners pockets care of PA . . . not trading with Utah would give even more money (v. Miles) to each owner, care of Utah Jazz.

BTW-I think they signed Price for the league min (4 yr vet) around 900,000/yr

 

Probably, unless they can convince OKC or even us to help them facilitate a 3 way trade and absorb some of Boozer's salary. Point being, I think Utah is probably going to take it in the shorts for a single year to retain Millsap.

 

Well if they don't, then in 1 year they don't have any good PF. I don't know if a lot of folks have thought about that. Millsap leaves, and Boozer has 1 year left and has burnt his bridges. That would mean after this season, they would have 0 good power forwards. That is unacceptable from a management point of view.

 

Exactly, which only further reinforces my belief that Millsap will be a member of the Jazz as of Friday.

 

They have NY's almost guaranteed lottery pick, and a draft with a decent amount of good young PFs sure to be in it. Might not be "ideal", but they'll be able to replace the two if need be.
