It's amazing that people are spinning this the opposite direction. I'm not trying to claim Mo is a "punk" for being an enforcer. I'm saying, Odom isn't a "punk" for being his teams enforcer. Neither of them are "punks". I don't like Odom because he plays for the Blazers biggest rival and he is one of their enforcers, but that doesn't make it so I can't be objective and say it would be nice to have another enforcer alongside Joel.

I'm not sure if I want Odom of not, but I think the people that are ruling him out because he talked trash with Jack and Aldridge are being real closed minded.

Yeah.. I just view him a taller, more talented and bigger Travis Outlaw. We'll be hating within a week for not giving the effort each game.
And he's not a SF anymore. His best position was at the PF when Gasol was at C. No thanks to Odom, and he'll end up in LA anyway.

And you're missing my point. Odom isn't an inforcer. He's an instigator who runs to the bench or to an official as soon as things escalate. How many times has he mouthed off while backing up? Mo Lucas ADVANCED when things got physical. Lamar Odom retreats like Bill Laimbeer.

Ok, we have a different perception of Odom I guess.

I see Odom as the type of guy who attempts to get in peoples head to take their focus off the game. He doesn't want to fight or hurt anyone, just throw them of their games. Some people might think that is cowardly, but I don't think it is any worse than what Mo did as an enforcer.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

I agree with all your posts on this subject. And i must admit I am one of those close minded fans. I don't like him. But I do know I would like him if he was wearing a Blazer uniform. I mean I HATED scottie pippen and I got over it.

It all comes down to his attitude. If he wants to be here then he will succeed. If he doesn't then it will be a mess. Hopefully he and the Lakers will piss each other off and he will want to pay them back for letting him go.

But I still think LA is where he wants to be.

Re: Odom Available...Make an Offer KP

An awful lot of this thread is really off the point. Why are we dissecting his personality and personal life? Contrary to the bile the Goryonion has been feeding you the last decade or so, this stuff is none of our concern and certainly none of our business.

IMHO, there is only one relevant issue here: is it an upgrade *on the floor* to add a slightly more talented, but equally bone-headed and inconsistent version of Outlaw? The team needs to get smarter and tougher.....how does Odom get us there?

I don't care if the guy runs into burning buildings to save orphans and their kittens. I also don't care if he unhinges his jaw like a python and swallows said orphans whole! Having TWO players like Odom and Outlaw will have us all gnawing open the veins in our wrists!

(I hope that wasn't too subtle. As some of you may have noticed, I have trouble being assertive.)

I agree with you about his attitude... unless he's an extremely bad guy then I don't think we need to worry about it.

The thing is that Odom is NOT just a slightly more talented version of Outlaw. Travis Outlaw is a jumpshooter and while he's a pretty good one... Odom is a different player.

Odom shot 59% of his FG attempts from the inside... Outlaw was at 19%. That's good and bad, because Outlaw might spread the floor more, but (a) it leads to fewer free throws (Outlaw had a 10.4% DrawFoul rate, Odom had a 15.3%), and (b) jumpshooting is inherently less consistent than attacking the rim.

Odom is also a FAR superior passer and ballhandler to Outlaw, which would make it easier for Portland to use a less conventional PG on the offensive end.

Add in the experience and the mean streak, and I think Odom improves this team a LOT... more than Hedo and more, in the short run, than Millsap. I think it would be a mistake if Portland did not look at him if/when the Jazz match.

His personality is relevant as it pertains to how he gets along with his teammates. If they dislike each other than it just won't work. I would roll the dice after I asked Roy and LMA.

Players don't have to like one another to be able to play well together.

I'm sure Outlaw would get traded if we got Odom, so you wouldn't have to worry about that.

You don't have to like one another.....but you if you hate one another it rarely lasts. But again I think it would in this case.

Jason Kidd and Jimmy Jackson hated each other and wouldn't pass to one another while they were playing together on the Mavs. Of course, that was because they both liked Toni Braxton.

The problem with messing with the l*kers by making a toxic offer for odumb is that they might not match it...

Then Portland gets Odom and is a stronger team. I think you're being way too optimistic...LA would probably match. ;)

Re: Odom Available...Make an Offer KP

What about Odom not being an unrestricted free agent, so the Lakers won't get a chance to match if Odom doesn't want to let them do so? Is that relevant?
