I've created a similar thread in the General OT forum a long while back, but I figured this place has enough posters to deserve one too.

I'm a big fan of horror films, but I feel like the genre hasn't aged well for me. A lot of the films I found scary and awesome back in the day feel so tame now. As a result, I've been more and more determined to find movies that really creep me out and mess with my head a little.

So go ahead and throw out your fave's, recommendations, and thoughts on what you actually find scary (i.e: these torture films that keep getting made are a bore).

The last film that I thought was messed up was 'An American Crime.' But I think that has more to do with me finding out it was a true story.

The last movie that really freaked me out was Vacancy. Also -- when I saw The Ring for the first time in the movie theater, I was pretty impressed. But as for straight horror, I haven't seen anything that really disturbed me that much. I saw a Documentary about the Friday the 13th movies that I thought was interesting on Showtime this past weekend. It was interesting to see how they made some of the death scenes.

Hey Chut, 123 posted a pretty scary/disturbing movie list recently.

That's all I got, I'm sure you've seen a few of those though.

I really liked The Descent from a few years ago. Jacob's Ladder might be my favorite all-time horror film.

A very old, but very good, is The Hands of Orloc. It is particularly scary because there is no supernatural, no monsters, just what the human mind can conceive.

Hitchcock was good because he was understated. I agree the genre has too much blood and gore in "modern" times.

Of course for a real life horror movie, watch the evening news.

One that I've heard good things about and that I'm currently trying to find is "Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer." It's on that list huevonkiller posted.
