chandler is expiring in 2010/2011 so the only significant savings would just be for 1 year. assuming roy holds out for a 5 year deal they would be adding salary long-term. doesn't make any sense.

But what he says can't be just swept under a rug. Portland (unlike Chicago from two years ago when they were trying to get Kome) can gut the team and still be a contender. Just keep Roy and either Aldridge or Oden.

A Paul/Roy backcourt would be the best in the history of the game.

I was looking at trades for Paul, and RealGM has Millsap on our roster!! How funny.

Bayless, Batum, Rudy for Paul? I have no idea what NO needs other than cap relief. Batum would sting, but seriously, it's fucking CP3.

I'd even go Bayless + Oden for Paul. Yep, I said it. And I'm an Oden supporter. My avarice is that high.

Shocking to hear that from Chris Paul. Has there ever been a player that good and that young traded? I mean, sure, Kobe was traded by Charlotte after the draft, but Kobe wasn't really Kobe back then.

I doubt he'd actually be traded. But if he were, you have to figure Portland would be in the running.

I'd probably make a mess in my pants if we got CP3 and didnt have to give up one of the big 3.

Outlaw, Rudy, Bayless, $$$$, and draft picks for CP3. Pipe dream... pipe dream. But its fun to dream!

It's going to take more than that.

Start with one of the big-3 and go from there.

If we do that, we should be the frontrunnres to land him.

I have a fair CP3 trade I'm cooking up that I will post later. Stupid ESPN trade machine isn't working at my work :/

The guts of the trade is LMA + Bayless to New Jersey for Harris.

New Jersey has a sick front court in LMA and Lopez plus Bayless to pair with LeBron and another max salary player when they move to Brooklyn.

Devin Harris + Rudy + Outlaw + Blake + Przybilla to NOH

New Orleans sheds CP3 and Chandler so they can sell the team and they still have the core of

    Harris/Blake
    Rudy
    Outlaw
    D. West
    Przybilla

    That's an exciting team actually.

Chandler + CP3 + Filler to Portland (Yi and a SG off of NO)

    Portland ends with.

    PG Paul
    SG Roy
    SF Batum
PF Yi/Cunningham (LOL I know but come on look at the back court!)
    C Oden/Pendergraph.

I think that team makes real noise once we sign some MLE vet role players.

I'd pick Oden, only because we have (a) Joel, and thus (b) three years to find a big guy to replace both Joel and Oden.

Maybe a package of Oden + Rudy + Bayless (all on rookie contracts) for Paul would be lopsided enough in talent and money in order to get a deal going.

Part of what makes CP3 so appealing to me is the thought he would make Oden markedly better. Look what CP3 did for Tyson Chandler. Because of that, I'd be hesitant to give up Oden in a deal to NO. I'd part with Aldridge before I parted with Oden in that scenario.

Yeah Paul will make Oden and LMA really good. That is why I say lets trade Roy for him and start Rudy.

CP3 is just specualting that the team needs to dump salary and "anything can happen".

    Yeah right.

In order for CP3 to get traded these things need to happen:

CP3 needs to demand a trade. (He may have already done this quietly, but it doesn't seem so by his comments).

New Orleans needs to get massive salary relief.

New Orleans needs to get a #1 overall pick (gone now), Derrick Rose, or a multiple young players on cheap deals.

    Anything less wouldn't make sense.

Your probably right, but it is fun to think about CP3 in scarlet red!

Re: CP3 on his way to Portland!

Interesting concept. Unfortunately it guts Portland's roster of any depth. However, you could see NJ consider a small for big trade, and you could see N.O. consider trading Paul for so many cheap and young players, plus cap relief.

What might make it work is if the Blazers get a servicable rotation player back from New Jersey and a servicable player back from New Orleans to help fill out the roster a bit.

Re: CP3 on his way to Portland!

I'd part with Aldridge, first, too. The problem is, the only motivation for the Hornets to move Paul is that they receive big salary savings (in addition to major talent). Aldridge is about to become very pricey. As is Roy. Oden is the only huge talent that Portland has that is due to be inexpensive for a few more years. So, I assume Oden would have to be a part of any Paul deal.

That's a shame, since I'd LOVE to have a Paul/Roy/Oden core. Paul and Oden together seems like a potentially transcendent duo and Roy is Roy.

But I would certainly deal Oden for Paul. Oden might be a once-a-generation center. Paul already is a once-a-generation point guard. You definitely take that certainty over potential.

An Oden/Rudy/Bayless/Outlaw/Blake (those last two are just to provide an extra $8 million in salary relief when they expire at the end of the season) for Paul and whatever big contracts Portland can absorb. Maybe still not enough, but perhaps enough to at least get them interested. Obviously, I wouldn't nix the deal over Batum, but I'd like to preserve Batum if possible. But Batum can go, too, if it were required. Team effectively gutted, but a Paul/Roy/Aldridge core is easily a championship-level core for many years. Finding the role-players to fill out the roster is the easy part.

    Oscar Robertson, too.
