http://www.dwightjaynes.com/i-still-think-the-blazers-may-have-a-deal-in-their-back-pocket By the way, does anyone else think that shaved-head Dwight Jaynes looks like Darth Vader after the mask is removed in ROTJ?
That actually makes some sense. If Portland ends up with a PG via trade, and I find out it was put together early then kudos to KP and I apologize.
I think the reason they haven't gone after a PG in free agency is because there aren't any worth going after.
My impression of KP is always that he is looking 2-3 deals ahead. This could go along with it, where he always has two deals tied into a 3rd deal, and needs all 3 to go off in order to pull the trigger. In other words, maybe he has a deal for a decent PG moving Webster and Outlaw, but was trying to focus on getting a SF first, before pulling the trigger(Hedo, Prince). Most likely doing that so it didn't come off as a desperation act if he had no other SFs. Generic example for those who play fantasy football: You have a decent deal lined up to land you a stud RB, but you are losing your top WR in the process. You're fine with making the deal, because you value RB over WR. However, if you then turn around and try to trade for a WR, that WR will now be viewed as your #1, instead of your #2(say you traded away Andre Johnson, and are looking to deal for...I dunno, Lee Evans or someone.). So instead of making the RB deal immediately, and then hunting for a new #1, you have that deal somewhat agreed upon with that owner. You then go shopping for a WR. But now, teams aren't looking at it as you are desparate for a top WR. They might think oh, he's just adding a #2 WR, so a deal for his #2 RB is a good deal. When in relaity, you are moving your 3rd RB for your new #1 WR. You pull off the deals simultaneously, and get what you want, while helping others along, just not lettign them on to what your goal in the deal is. Or who you might be moving. Could factor in along those lines, who knows. Maybe he has had a deal lined up for Hinrich, but each time, he is looking at a secondary deal, and those secondary deals keep falling apart, which makes him back out on the Hinrich deal. Or whoever.
"I have thought all along that Portland still has some sort of point-guard deal on the back burner that would be announced after the free agency chase is done." If he's "thought it all along" why is he only saying it now? "I have thought all along" is one of my pet peeves
Dwight Jaynes: "I still drink too much and am a drunk fuckhead". There is no deal in the Blazers back pocket, get real. You don't wait to pull the trigger on a deal if it is important to your team.
There are reasons to wait Maybe you need to get something done first? maybe the other team needs to get something done first to clear cap space? We don't know.
When we are all dejected, KP will come out with the "big secret deal that he's had in his back pocket all along" which equals Outlaw for Conley and a swap of picks!
Dear god that would be nice. Outlaw + Blake + Picks + $3mil for Conley would be great for that matter. In fact I might flip my lid.
I don't believe Blake is needed to make it work. Just a swap of picks; our number 1 plus Outlaw for a second rounder of theirs and Conley. Salarywise: it works. Doesn't have an effect on our cap space one way or another either. But a trade of this nature then leaves us with signing a free agent - (as Outlaw was really our one certain trade pawn). What's left?
My thought is you use the cap space to get a free agent . . . and then you use Travis + Blake/Bayless + trade exception to get PG via trade or sign and trade (Philly is looking to sign and trade Miller). If you do the sign and trade first using the trade exception, you take on more salary than you are giving out and therefore lowering salary cap amount. Right?
Agreed. Thus my reasoning that Outlaw and picks to Memphis for Conley can happen after we deal with signing a F/A. Didn't I read somewhere that Conley and Bayless were in Ohio working out with Greg? Hmmmm Conley saying "hello" and Bayless saying his "goodbyes? PS: I'd love to trade Bayless in a lopsided deal to the Suns (for Nash); or to Charlotte (for G. Wallace, if Conley is coming!)
