Pretty interesting deals. I think New Orleans would rather dump Stojakovic than Chandler, though. Of the two, Chandler is probably easier for them to dump later. They'd probably want to get rid of the otherwise-untradeable Stojakovic contract in a Paul deal.

I wish I could be more excited about this but I know better than to do that to myself.

Its kinda like when you buy a lottery ticket for the huge jackpot and you KNOW you aren't going to win but its still fun dream about what you would buy.

Exactly my thoughts. Good call on the Peja comment too, I didnt think of that. I guess we could take him and hope we can get abackup C to spell Joel.

Rookies N.O. might get excited about: Griffin, Curry, ??

Sophs N.O. might get excited about: Rose, Mayo, ??

Third year guys: Oden, Durant, ??

Large, Bad Contracts on New Orleans:

Peja: 2 years, $27 million (ouch baby, ouch!)
    Tyson: 2 years, $24.6 million
Mo Pete: 2 years, $12 million

Getting Peja back would be even better for Portland as he would replace Rudy as a back up SG giving Roy minutes to play at the 3.

I think the deal could work especially if we also took back Najera and some bad contracts but useful pieces from NOH and NJ.

I will post one complete with ESPN trade machine when I get home.

I seriously think that deal I outline is as plausible as I have seen regarding CP3.

Forgot to say: I would argue that NOH is actually a bit more balanced and competitive with that roster. CP3 is amazing but it's not THAT big of a step down to Harris.

Are these sources even credible? Not to be the skeptic..... but I've never even heard of those people.

That's my thoughts...this is a pipe dream of epic proportions...there is NO WAY Paul is coming to Portland, I don't care who you trade. He is the best PG in the league and they don't grow on trees.

It is hard to match salaries direct with New Orleans. We don't have any big contracts right now.

If it was:Joel & Blake & Outlaw & Bayless & Rudy & all our cap space (for max instant relief),

we could take back Paul and Chandler, but it wouldn't be enough for Paul and Peja.

Substituting Oden for Joel means that we can't even match up for a Paul and Chandler swap.

And realize, that is 5 rotation players for 1 (+ 1 that is a maybe with his bum foot).

it's improbable, but not at all what you would call a "pipe dream of epic proportions" given the hornet's economic situation.

if you offered them something like oden, rudy, batum, bayless + picks and took chandler they would be dumb not to seriously consider it.

Now I don't have a link for this so it isn't news its a RUMOR. However, that said supposedly the owner of the Hornets is deeply in the red and wants to sell and move the team. In order to do that though he would have to shed salary and also dump Paul. This is because it would be nigh impossible to move the team if they had such an uber superstar like Paul. They would be better off with a pool of young talent and cheap contracts that would be attractive enough that someone would want to buy the team but not anchored by CP3 which would make a deal virtually impossible.

This to me is the ONLY scenario in which NOH trades Paul. If the above rumor is true then the CP3 being possibly traded rumor (originating with CP3 himself) is a real possibility.

Re: CP3 on his way to Portland!

espn's trade machine is jacked up. It has West with a 1yr/2M contract and nothing for Julian Wright.

I'm telling 'ya. Travis to MEM for a future first. Bring our cap room up to 11.313M.

    Then, voila!
    http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=nptzhp

POR Out: LMA, Przy, Rudy, Blake, Outlaw
    POR In: CP3, Love, Chandler

MEM Out: Future 1st to NOH
    MEM in: Outlaw

    NOH Out: Paul, Chandler
NOH In: Rubio, Rudy, Blake, Cardinal, MEM 1st, POR 1st, Cash, saves 12M in salary (once they sign Rubio)

    MIN Out: Love, Rubio, Cardinal
    MIN In: LMA, Przy

Big man rotation of Love, Chandler, Oden scares me a teeny bit, but CP3/Roy more than makes up for it.

Re: CP3 on his way to Portland!

    I'd just go with this

All 4 of last year's rookies for Paul and Butler

    Lineup:
    Paul/Blake
    Roy/Butler
    Outlaw/Webster
    Aldridge/Cunningham
    Przybilla/Pendergraph

Also--I notice the comments about how Paul's work with Chandler suggests that he'd do amazing things for Oden. I wonder though, how much better would Joel be with Paul at the point? Wouldn't he be capable of doing everything that Chandler does?

Gotta keep Oden. LMA is the tradable one and has a MUCH higher value then Oden right now. I still say some kind of three team deal that puts LMA on a third team that gives up major talent that along with our non-Oden rookies puts enough talent and salary cap relief on the table to tempt NOH.

undervalues LMA or overvalues rubio, or both.

If I'm NOH, and my front-line consists of West/Chandler, then I'm much more interested in Oden than Aldridge. That said, I'm sure they'd rather get Harris than either, so you're probably right in saying that a 3-team deal would be more likely.

Re: CP3 on his way to Portland!

I was actually thinking about Rubio as a PG replacement for NO. Don't think he would want to go to such a small market, but maaaaaaybe if he and Rudy decided they together as starters would be the best thing for their careers would want that opportunity.

You got some creative dealmaking there, but you are leaving NO with too few bigs. They need a center after shipping out Chandler. Pryz maybe?

no way. the things paul can do that would make oden an effective center would make LMA an allstar.

Re: CP3 on his way to Portland!

Obviously you have to look at any option if CP3 is available. I don't think we could work out a deal for Oden or LaMarcus as New Orleans would want more in return. At a point you can't gut your team AND trade away a talent like Oden (or LaMarcus) even for a top player like Paul. We'd become a worse version of the Hornets.

I wish this would work; also give NOH the Memphis draft pick and give them our first rounder for 2010 and 2012. Posey and Mo Pete are salary dump, if NOH would rather give us Chandler or Peja it would be their choice.

    Por: Paul, Posey, Peterson
NOH: Batum, Bayless, Blake, Rudy, Pryz, 3 first rounders
    MEM: Outlaw

    we'd have:

    Paul
    Roy
    ???? (Posey, Peterson, Martell)
    LMA
    Oden

That would be it! No depth, we'd have to add a bunch of NBADL and old veterans like the Celtics did to win their title. But we can fill out the bench in future offseasons.
