can we stop the myth about Bayless being a good defender?

He's gotten absolutely dominated in summer league by guys who will never play more than 30 min in a NBA game

Lawson killed him tonight. Before tonight Lawson had been a joke.

I hope you're not talking about Ty Lawson (as a guy who will never play 30 min/game)

Lawson is no joke. He will be a quality NBA PG.

Well he fits right in with the rest of the Blazers then, doesn't he?

I'm convinced the Blazers were targeting Lawson in the draft.

Bayless is at best a 7th or 8th man I have been saying this for months. But nobody wants to believe it. He is a undersized 2 guard with tiny arms who cant shoot. Bye the time KP realizes this he won't have any value left! Once again KP over valuing his own players BIG TIME

He said he had been a joke, which he had. 1 for 6 then 0 for 8 or something like that. He might be alright.

Bayless has lapses, and often fouls, but he is a tenacious defender who is already better then Blake or Sergio were last year. As Bayless continues to grow and plays with a more vocal and help oriented Blazer squad, he will be one hell of a defensive PG. I am not sure is he will ever be the good passer or shooter I want, but defense I have no doubt will be his calling card. You are basing too much on a small sample that is not a good representative of real NBA play.

This Bayless experiment needs to end soon. He's not a PG and he's undersized for a SG spot. Unfortunately I can see the Blazers holding onto him like Enron stock or Travis Outlaw. They never seem to know when to sell high.

Not giving him up is torpedoing the Kirk Hinrich trade.

Exactly. I'd throw him in that deal in a heartbeat after seeing his underwhelming SL performance. I don't see much tangible improvement from his streaky play last season.

I don't care. I don't like Hinrich much anyways, at least not for the price. He's too similar offensively to Blake. His value seems to be jacked up high because he can play defense (which skyrockets his value, apparently) and because he had a nice playoff series.

People judge too quickly based on SUMMER LEAGUE.

If you recall, Batum was dog poop in summer league. He couldn't even defend, which is his main selling point now.

I'm not sure many have claimed that Bayless is a good defender. At the moment, he's overthinking everything he does, he's focusing in particular on being a distributor on offense, he's playing with bad players, and he's just plain inexperienced, hence his below average defense. He does have excellent lateral quickness and he's a tenacious player, which gives him the potential to be a solid defender or better.

He looks far worse than last year. His ball handling is pretty weak and he's still trying to steamroll his way to hoop with mixed results against some weak competition.
