After one full season and two summer leagues, I've come to the following conclusion about Bayless: He's one of those guys who has to be really "on" to perform well. You know the type? They can look really good when they're giving it 100% and everything is clicking, but it's hard for them to sustain that level of play. Most nights they're going to look very average.

Bayless just doesn't have the physical tools to stand out in the NBA. If he makes it, he's going to make it as a "scrapper."

    Am I wrong?

Spectacularly wrong. Bayless is one of the best athletes in the NBA, the only thing he lacks is a decent wingspan. He's inconsistent because he's young and his role hasn't been attacking the basket, it's been to try and become a PG.

What you wrote sounds like a good description of Webster though.

I've said this all summer - Bayless is Ben Gordon. We need to play him in that type of role and quit trying to turn him into something that he's not.

I think Bayless will make it in this league. He is defenately a legit NBA tallent. However, he is NOT a PG. He just needs to improve his game awareness & shot.

He has all the physical tools & determination to be a mini-Ben Gordon. I just don't think that is what the Blazers need, and I am not too fond of his attitude.

I disagree. Having him work on team running will be important in the long run for this team. Yes, we will want that BG kind of scoring mentality off the ball with Roy but alot of situations will call for him to look to create for other players when Roy is covered by elite defenders, double teamed or on the bench (Resting or fouls). He needs to develop those skills even if they are situational.

Does he remind anyone else of James 'Hollywood' Robinson? I don't know why, but somehow he just gives me that same vibe... hope I'm wrong.

I think his physical attributes (athletcism, first step, strength) are absolutely his most bankable attributes at the NBA level not his least bankable ... as for him being a competent point guard I'm pretty undecided at this point; my guess is that he if he ever does put it all together and is able to make the game slow down it won't happen for at least another two years -- maybe with another training camp and better teammates this will be less of a problem, but I wouldn't count on it.

I'm really curious to see if he can do anything at all effectively with the remaining two games in Vegas.

Sounds about right. Somewhat flashy player with some hops, but far from a polished product, and still a big question mark.

Of course, Hollywood was a four-year player at Alabama and was 23 before he played in his first regular season NBA game. Bayless will be 23 when the 2011-12 season tips off.

If he STILL has the same unpolished/"work in progress" feel at that point then I think criticisms of him will be much more justified.

yeah a ben gordon that cant shoot! bayless is not even in the same league as gordon. And I totally agree with this thread that he will always be just a average scrappy player.

It has been said in another thread a while ago that Rudy would play some PG next season. That gives us this lineup:

    PG: Blake/Rudy/Jeter
    SG: Roy/Bayless
