Re: Indiana won't match [Ind. Star] This is basically injury insurance for Calderon, right? If we just wanted a back up, Douby is fine. To me this seems to be more about making sure we can survive without Calderon for an extended stretch.
I don't look at Douby as a capable point guard. He's shown excellent scoring ability in Summer League, but has tended to hog the ball a lot. Playing him at the point would be like when we played Juan Dixon at the point, IMO. I think this signing's an attempt to recapture the success we had in '07, with Forderon (distributing PG & penetrating PG combo). Except this time the better one will be starting. The fact that he can play minutes at the 2 is a bonus (especially with the Delfino negotiations stalling).
i actually think douby could play alongside jack in the backcourt. in fact, that would be a dynamic scoring backcourt and that would counterbalance antoine wright and reggie evans offensive ineptness.
I assume Jack is fine with coming off the bench and backing up Calderon. We don't need any TJ Ford drama again this year. Jack is a real solid signing. Maybe it will convince Bosh to hang around.
yeah but im convinced jack will play crunch time minutes at the two. i envision this is the lineup thats going to close out games- bargnani, bosh, hedo, jack and caledron
5 mill is fine IMO raps have enuff money to sign 2 more players, Rasho and Kleiza maybe??? Delfino aint coming its like Josh Childress the money they payin him in euro is too good to let go (apperently he was one of the highest payed players).
I doubt we get a player of Klieza's calibre to replace Delf, if he's not coming over. We just don't have enough money left in the MLE after this Jack signing to accomodate that kind of player. Unless his Jack's deal is backloaded (haven't heard that rumour in a while, so I'm assuming it's false).
5 mil is the going rate for someone of jack's caliber, he could easily start in this league. and good pg's are like good centres in the league, u should be willing to pay a premium for them.
One bit of interest that came from today's press conference was that it seems Roko will be traded. Some mention of Quincy Douby being our third guard. No mention of Banks, Wright, George. Those three might not be long for this team either.
i was intrigued by the trading roko notion, hopefully it nets us a productive big of some note. wright's name was brought up colangelo in good terms,- colangelo relayed a conversation he had with rick carlisle (sp.) who thought of wright as the mavericks best defender.
Wright could potentially start at the 2, IMO. We don't have a better option at the moment. I really don't see Jack playing much 2, only in a similar capacity to when we had Forderon on the court.
I hope we keep Wright, he would be a much needed defender on this team. I've never really liked Devean George but hes a good vet so i dont care if he stays or goes. I hope we trade Banks, somehow... This team is shaping up pretty nicely, now that the Jarrett Jack signing has been finalized.
Roko being traded is very interesting, raps are in desperate need of a Big man, yes Reggie Evans is amazing at grabbin rebs (e.g. the infamous 21 rebs 0 pts game) but they need a real big man!
I really doubt we can get a big for Roko. With Bosh, Bargnani, Evans, O'Bryant, and Rasho, we're not too hard up for bigs anyways. We still need shooters.
i disagree- hedo, caledron, bargnani, jack and douby would all qualify as shooters. if i was colangelo, i would look for a shot blocker or low post scorer like ike diogu.
