I'd be reasonably happy with either player. Hinrich is younger and might be a slightly better fit, Miller is the better player and you can find ways to fit in a gifted play-maker. Of course, my question is: Assuming this rumour is legit (probably asked and answered right there), if Portland is interested in Andre Miller, a guy who can't shoot the three, why not Ramon Sessions?
If the deal was for only 1 or 2 years then it would be ok I guess. Not really optional though. Miller WAS better then Blake last year, but I don't know how much longer Miller can keep it up at his age. It is just sad to consider getting old Miller when young Miller (Sessions) can be made an offer.
So, the motivation to choose Miller over Hinrich is per-year salary being less, length of contract shorter, and allows Portland to not give up as much salary cap space?
My guess would be Bayless. Or at least, that makes the most sense to me. I know he isn't going to be a "True PG" that many want. But maybe KP and Nate have seen enough to like out o fhim where, Miller bridges the gap for a year or two to Bayless, whereas adding Sessions relegates Bayless to career backup, trade fodder, or eventual starter, making Sessions a very expensive backup.
Has Miller ever played with another high-usage guard, like Brandon? I really question how well Miller can play off Brandon.
1st round tested? this is an honest question.. not a smart ass remark, has he ever gotten out of the 1st round?
That, and maybe Portland wants another player who can create for others. Someone else who can get to the rim and either attack the basket for layups/FTs, or create easy dunks, layups for Oden and Aldridge when attacking.
I so much like the idea of Bayless/Roy backcourt. W/Rudy subbin oh yah, i like miller for a short term solution too, hell i'll do either.
And that's maybe the bigger reason. We saw how high of a priority it was to get a secondary playmaker when they went after Hedo. I'm starting to warm up to this.
My take on this rumor. I would prefer both Sessions and Odom before Hinrich. The more I think about Odom, I realize just how much it cripples the Lakers. their starting 4 (sorry Fisher) is monster, with Bynum, Kobe, Artest, and Gasol. But after that their bench is Walton, Farmar, Sasha, Powell, Brown, and Mbenga. am I missing someone? that is a big dropoff in their bench. The only guy I honestly like in that group is Brown.
I think Portland had a kind of two headed plan, or rather, one plan, with two avenues. One of either the SF or PG needed to be able to create opportunities better for themselves AND others. If you add that at the SF position(Hedo, Prince), then Blake was acceptable at the PG position, with Bayless backing him up. However, if the SF position was not upgraded, then you looked to do it at the PG position(Miller, Nash, etc.) and then you are fine at SF with Batum and Webster.
Right, but he's at least made it as deep as the rest of our core, ya know? Look at the players we've been after. All of them have had Playoff experience with the exception of David Lee, although he was with Florida, so they likely consider him a more proven commodity? I dunno. Just trying to make sense of this.
yeah I know, I'm not jumping on you or anything, sorry if it seemed that way. I just think if the only extra experience he has, is what we already have, why not go for sessions.
Just because he hasn't made it far in the playoffs doesn't take away from his experience playing in the league.
you are right, but it also doesnt show us how one will react in a higher pressure situation in a WCF or so, that for him is as much of an enigma, as for the guys we have already.
True, but Brandon's close the 27 Usuage, whereas Iggy is at 22. That's significant difference I believe.
