I think one of those guys will separate themselves to be our backup PF. I'd say their play at SL has been the highlight of our offseason so far.

I can't wait to see Pendergraph bring his high-energy style of towel-waiving to the bench!

    Sarcasm? Me? Nah.

I can't wait to have a couple of four year seniors with no apparent NBA-ready skills holding down the end of the bench. They lack upside but aren't ready to contribute to a winning team... and there are two of them!

    Yay!

They both have a Mark Bryant quality I like a lot. And guys with their approach tend to do well in Nate's system. I'm pleased they both get a chance.

Aren't they way better than Ike Diogu, Michael Ruffin or Travis Outlaw at the 4?

Not in my opinion. Ruffin is irrelevant... but Outlaw and Ike are both markedly superior in my opinion.

Except, of course, in the ability to "bring energy" and "waive the towel", which seems to be all Pendergraph has been praised for by the Blazers.

Cunningham, at least, gets credit for his defense (in summer league) and credit that, if he can hit a jumper, he could be a player in the NBA.

Of course, Outlaw already has proven he can hit jumpers. Diogu, for all of his time on benches in the NBA, has been very effective in the minutes he's received over time.

We'll see. Cunningham and Pendergraph are cheaper, but if we were going to get guys for the end of the bench I'd rather have players that are younger with more upside OR more experienced guys who are more capable of contributing right away. We have two that I see with low ceilings and that aren't good enough to help now.

I can't remember what website it was, but it compared Cunningham with George Lynch. I can certainly live with that - a starter on a finals team (Philly).

Just so long as he's not Ed O'Bannon...

And I think Pendergraph will look a lot better alongside better players. He's not going to look good as your third best player. But as the fifth best player on the floor he's good. The thing about our scrub PFs of the past couple of years - Diogu, S. Randolph, Ruffin - is that they were the stars of their college teams and at least in the case of the first two, early entry guys. Whereas the ones we've just picked already know how to play second fiddle. Like George Lynch! (Or Eric Snow, or Alvin Williams, et. al.)

I think they called him a George Lynch-like player on a Blazers' broadcast, too. Not sure which came first. :)

I liked what I saw of Dante Cunningham in summer league. Efficient and hard worker. Reminded me a bit of a Buck Williams.

George Lynch was the 12th overall pick. I think you're underestimating the career he had at UNC.

I am not excited about either player, but am fine with them on the end of the bench and will hope they prove me wrong. I will cheer for them if they ever make it onto the court, but I will be hoping that a move will be made that give us either better prospects or more mature players.

Because 95% of us thought there was no way in hell we would go into the season without a real back up PF.

And 95% of the people on this forums guessed we'd win under 54 games last season, whats your point?

Exactly what we need, some hard nosed energy guys to help toughen up our core team, raise the level of practice, and push the very same players who won 54 games last year to become even more solid.

While the Lakers have gotten better, the Rockets are done for, I believe a stronger version of our team last year can challenge the West. Bring it on!
