sorry didn't like the list much at all. This is weird to make because there are only like 7-8 teams with above average players at both positions. And i'd argue that Lee and Harris are better than both Jameer and Vince and Monta and Jackson. And i don't know why but i don't see parker and manu as a backcourt, they really don't play off each other at all. edit, also baron davis/eric gordon, bout the only other above average at each position team i can think of right now
Nah the list is fine, there aren't that many loaded backcourts and Legacy pretty much covered them all.
I'm talking about talent wise, not just how well they play off each other. Davis has lost his edge and Gordon is still too young. Harris and Nelson are as good as each other, but Carter is on another level when compared to with Lee. Lee ain't up there yet. Monta is better than Harris when healthy and same. And as I said for Vince, Jackson is on a different level from Lee right now.
Well if it's just straight talent then you are underrating Harris. Look at the numbers the kid put up last year. In my opinion jameer is horrifically overrated and we don't even know if monta is ever gonna be the same. Also we don't know what's going to happen with Lee. I think he is ridiculously talented and is gonna explode, while i think carter is pretty much done. Might have one more year. I didn't mean to diss the list, its a fine list, i was just saying that there really isn't a point to the top 6 when there are only 8 that are even considerable imo, and fisher kobe is sort of a stretch, but i agree with you on it lol.
Harris is great, but he put up those numbers with almost no other scoring options. Nelson did it with Hedo, Rashard, and Dwight all are bigger scoring options than just Carter and a rookie in Brook Lopez. Monta showed at the end of the season that he is still explosive and even had a game where he scored 40 plus and had 9 assists and 9 rebounds. I don't think we have to worry about him. And I agree about Lee, read my breakout players article. But Carter will be rejuvenated and he will have one of his better seasons playing in his hometown.
YOu can't compare what harris and jameer had around them. Jameer didn't do shit for the magic, he played hard on defense while dwight and hedo and lewis got him wide open 18 footers (his only real skill in my opinion). Every knows hedo ran that offense. Look what happened when he got hurt and pg that can actually create started playing, they got GOOD! and then they went back to jameer and looked awful in the finals. For harris to put up those numbers with the black hole vince carter on that team is very impressive to me. He did it in all kinds of ways, and still managed to get a good number of assists. I tend to agree that monta will be back next year, i just don't think he's a point guard, he is just a really talented two guard that isn't the ideal size.
Black hole Vince Carter?? What do you mean by that. And off course Nelson was going to suck in the finals, it was his first game in months and he was still not 100 percent and he had to play in the most important games of the whole season. You can't take that and say that he sucks. Well Don Nelson is putting him as the point guard this season which is why I included him and Jackson on the list.
i didn't, i used more examples, but here are more of my feelings on Jameer. He is an average penetrator for someone his size (telfair gets to the rim at will, so does aaron brooks, AI, rondo, d rose, etc, Jameer does not). Can't finish particularly well. Tries on defense, but isn't great by any means. Should have gotten a lot more assists playing with who he did, but has a good 18 footer when left wide open like he always is. He is a derek fisher clone imo, but without the clutchness. He doesn't create for people and doesn't help much. He dribbles the ball up, gives it to hedo, then spots up for an open jumper, and on defense works pretty hard, but could be better. oh, and i would prefer nash and barbosa/richardson over most on the list.
so you agree with what i think about jameer? cause your article didn't hint at that. Bibby and JJ don't play defense for shit either, in fact the only above average defensive backcourt you have is rondo allen since fisher is way over the hill defensively and kobe doesn't guard the other teams best players all that often anymore.
You'll just have to wait this season and he can prove you wrong for me. The difference is that their teams at least make a point to play on defense (except the Warriors, but Jackson is a great defender). Kobe's job is to roam on defense, but when it comes to locking a player down, I don't know if anyone besides Battier could do a better job.
you said based purely on talent though? and jameer has yet to prove me wrong, i've always thought he was garbage, and i am still completely unconvinced after his "breakout" year. The dude is a role player, with a ceiling of d fish.
The Suns' backcourt is surrounded by talent and still struggles to make the playoffs. Their defense is awful and their O is not as good anymore.
Nash isn't as talented anymore, imo. He is getting up there in age and I think he's not the player he once was. Richardson can dunk and shoot, but nothing more than that.
Not over most of that list, they lack talent defensively and clearly their team impact and offensive skills isn't there anymore to the same degree. Maybe they should run that up-tempo system again the whole year.
