Seems like I should know this, given that the draft was less than a month ago, maybe I'm just suffering from Brainfart.
My question: Since the NBA won't be into its next year financially yet, does that mean that Roy and Aldridge's impending (dear god let them be impending!) contract extensions won't be put into place either yet? Essentially would we still have our cap space to take a big contract and pick (say, John Wall) or player, or is the drop dead line the trade deadline?

I feel like it's GOT to be the trade deadline for all realistic purposes -- teams can make trades after their season ends, but I don't think in the history of the NBA there's been a major trade that's gone down between 2 teams after their playoff runs...

If they sign an extension with the Blazers, it will have no impact on the cap until after their 4 year rookie deal is finished. So, if they sign tomorrow, we would still have the cap space at the trade deadline.

Whether it matters is another issue.

I know we'll have the space at the deadline. I'm asking, would we still have space AT THE DRAFT?

This is speculation, but I believe the offseason has officially started at that point and the next years numbers are in effect.

Yes we would still have the cap space until June 30th 11:59pm New York time. So yes for draft day. If we wait that long though...I mean that would mean we might have Blake and Outlaw on the team next year! :NOTMARIS:

    Hello darkness, my old friend
No, I think the new numbers kick in July 1. Until this July 1, Portland was considered over the cap.

So, to answer the OP's question, I believe Portland will have the cap space at next year's draft and all the way through next June 30.
