Blazers 2009-2010 Theme [ FULL VERSION ] - Remixed By Dj Puma

    *****UPDATED FULL VERSION 7/22/09 ******

Samples taken from Original Trumpet Portland Trailblazer Theme. Drums and Samples Arranged By Levi "Dj Puma" May. Finnally, The Portland Trailblazers have a Hip-Hop version of their rally song players and fans will enjoy. For More info contact Dj Puma at (360) 606-3359

Thanks for the suggestions, they have been very helpful! I have it multi-tracked out so I can re-edit it and expand on it or break it down to the basic parts of the track, including the name drops. I just put those in there so people don’t steal it or bite my idea, and as a Blazer Fan it’s something I’ve been wanting to do for years, just could never find the original version of the Blazers theme song.

Keep on giving the Feedback, I’m went back to the lab and took your suggestions into consideration and made most of them work.

    - I ditched the "D-D-D-D-D-J" Name Drops
    - I was able to slow down the tempo a little bit, about 77 BPM and the video a lot. (Cool ‘77 has special meaning in this town)
    - Worked In the Original Melody that everyone knows and Loves.
    - Touched up and Mastered the Drums (It’s Helps to have a Subwoofer!!!)
    - Added Moments of Silence for a Dramatic effect. (As you’ll see in the demo Video)
    - Included a Breakdown of just the Beat with the main hits that adds a nice touch of continuation.

Just to let everyone know, I’m doing this for fun as a Blazers fan, and if it happens to catch on cool, if not, I still had fun re-working a classic song I’ve known all my life. It is a Hip-Hop beat, so it has to have a hard hitting, grimy, edgy sound to it. If you still don’t like it it’s cool, maybe you should take a shot and do your own version!

Take care Blazer Fans, see ya’ll around!

PS the final cut came out to be 7 min long, it’s an extended version to go along with last seasons highlights.

    Special Treat*****
Here’s the link to the Somewhat Original Blazer Trumpet Theme song…
I Say somewhat cause it plays fast, and doesn’t seem to sound like the Full Version.

I like it a lot. Goes with the vibe of the NBA toward the hip-hop genre rather than the crappy local band remixes they do on the actual TV broadcasts, which don't sound good at all to me.
I don't know how it would play on the telecasts though because it is a little slow when TV beats are so fast-paced, but I'd send it in. Any way to download it?

So much better than that "western aerial" band with the mohawked idiot that they show every TV broadcast. Damn I hate them.

I'll take the "crappy local bands" with the "mohawk idiot" over hip hop all day long. Takes a hell of a lot more talent to play an instrument then to just add a simple bass line and other beats to the original theme.

    The video highlights are great!

I don't mind the other versions too much, there just needed to be a dope Hip-hop version.

Just curious, who was the last band to go platinum or multi-platinum out of Portland anyway?

Curtis Salgado and Everclear are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head.

Has anyone in the hip hop world from Portland gone platinum?

To each their own but I enjoyed keeping the original trumpet song in this mix, rather than the bands doing their own version. It seemed more true to the original.

Completely agree! It's similar to the run of radio hits lately that are just ripping off 80s pop songs and adding some rapping to them.

Maybe we could get Rudy to do the Auto Tune version! lol.

My personal opinion, Autotune has been overused. I can't discredit any bands from putting their own stroke of genius or completely butchering the song, as long as they put in a good effort. Personally, I've been wanting to do this remix for a long time, and it's been next to impossible to find a mint, original pressing of the Trail Blazers Trumpet theme.

It's easy for myself to take criticism from those who understand Hip-Hop, it's roots and flavor. I'm sure this is gonna be the first of many mixes from myself, there are so many ways to flip the samples, yet I wanted to keep this one a bit more sweet and simple, staying true to the original, making it recognizable to all Blazer Fans when it comes on.

People who don't like rap or Hip-hop in general, I could care less about you're opinion. I'm not here to please or impress you, and think you're better off saving your opinion for somewhere else. Better yet, tell your friend who's in a band to take a hack at making their own version.

I did this cause I'm a fan and did this for myself cause I enjoy it. I'm glad people have been speaking up, and come on, it's just music. Everyone has their own taste, and I'm sure If I heard a twangy Country version, I'd be rolling my eyes and hit the mute button, but I'm not gonna hop online and tell them how much better my Hip-Hop version rules over theirs.

There, made my point, thanks for the support & heavy criticism.

let us know when a download link is up, I would love to have a MP3 of your mix. Great job on this. The Blazers really should pick this up if they were smart.
