You get a veteran PG for a year. Philly is looking for a sign and trade. Perhaps they can fool Pritchard into giving the overrated Miller a 3 year deal, and at least get something in return.
Maybe the Sixers would see Blake as a reasonably priced PG they can plug in for a year. If Sixer don't sign Miller, they are going to need another PG. Blake for 4 mil/yr is a pretty good deal. They can sign Miller for 6 million for 3 years and then trade him to Ptd for Blake and the trade exception. Of course I don't see Miller agreeing to a sign and trade for the a contract starting at 6/yr . . . and personally I would hate to lose Blake.
I don't think so. Why? A one year contract isn't exactly what I meant in terms of the MLE. I have to respond to the "Miller isn't a winner" complaint. Teams win, not individuals. Outside of his one miserable season with the Clips, Miller has always made a positive contribution to his team. What more can an individual player do? Should the Blazers only make trades with teams that had better records than they did? Should they only trade with teams that won their first round series? Sorry, but that is hopelessly unrealistic. Swinging a trade with a bad team is often your best chance to get a good player at a bargain price. You have to approach FAs the same way. The team almost over-paid for Hedo solely because some of Orlando's success rubbed off on him. That was (almost) a silly mistake. Personally, I would rather have the vet who is really hungry....the guy who will be thrilled to be on a winning team.
In 2007-08, the last year Hinrich ran the point, his AST% was 30.9 and his AST/36 was 6.8. Last season, Miller's AST% was 30.2 and his AST/36 was 6.5. So, it looks to me like Hinrich, when running the point is just as good at distributing the ball and setting up his teammates as Miller. BNM
That was my fear with the Hedo thing all along. Really now, if Hedo - the exact same player, person, career, output, everything, had still been on the Kings last season - do you really think the Blazers would have made a $50 million dollar offer? No fucking way. Not even close. Never would have happened. The Kings sucked. They would have sucked less with Hedo on their team - but they still would have been a bad team. Who would have noticed him or any differences he made to the team? The premium on Hedo's finals run was HUUUUGGGE. I for one, was very leery about paying that premium.

The upgrade from Blake to Miller is at LEAST as significant as the upgrade from Outlaw to Hedo would have been. How is that "settling"????
