The New York Yankees beat the Oakland Athletics by a score of 6-3. C.C. Sabathia got the win and Phil Hughes got the save. I’m still kind of amazed at how the Yankees are winning and the Red sox are losing and I’m amazed at how all of a sudden the Red Sox have fallen on hard times. In the middle of the fourth inning, I was like, oh no, Sabathia is going to lose this game. He left a couple of change ups, up but settled down however and looked pretty good in getting the win. I’m really happy that Hughes stayed on the roster and didn’t go back to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He’s one of the best pitchers on the roster right now. He got his first save which I thought was pretty neat. Mark Texeira had a great game. Three RBI. That’s great. Robinson Cano didn’t have a great game at the plate but he did have a great game in the field. I like the way he swings the ball when he throws it from the right side. It’s like he’s not even looking. It’s pretty cool to watch. I felt kind of bad that the boy from Hackensack, NJ, Vin Mazzaro got the loss especially since the Yankees were his favorite team growing up. Too bad he couldn’t of lost the game 1-0. Player of the Game: Mark Teixeira. Got two big hits.
Yanks are clicking on all cylinders right now. They're getting quality starts out of their starters on a nightly basis, their 'pen (specifically Hughes and Rivera) has been sensational, and they're swinging the bats well. Hopefully they can keep this up and extend the division lead.
