Obviously not going to happen as Dwight Jaynes says, but how do ya like that, the tribes would be the reason we got a team http://www.dwightjaynes.com/major-league-baseball-in-portland
Sorry to be the dash of cold water, but the A's owner is a snake (apologies to snakes) who has been playing one city against another. Oakland, San Jose, Fremont, now Portland.
I have been following this movement since the very early 2000's. This is the most promising news (although not really promising at all) that has come out since Portland was named as one of two cities in the running for the Expos. I know it wont happen, but I would love to dream that the A's could be sold on our city and a way could be had to make them the Portland A's. I would be so happy!
We can't even take care of our own triple A club, I can't imagine some of the stink ppl will raise with MLB.
Other than the site a few blocks north of the RQ, this is an ideal place for the stadium. The Pearl has transformed in the last 5-6 years. Adding this would be an interesting contrast to that area.
More of an Al Davis. If I understand correctly, Bennett wanted to move the Sonics to his home town. Wolff just wants to move the team to a more lucrative location. His real desire is San Jose. However, the problem is that the San Francisco Giants own the rights to the South Bay market. Wolff has to get Bud Selig to give the A's those rights, in order to move. One way to try to accomplish that is to threaten to move to a smaller market, since Selig's main desire is to maximize baseball revenues. Portland grades out as a "smaller market" than the East Bay in the Bay Area. Another tactic is to explore various other locations, show that they won't work and that San Jose is the only viable option. So, I don't think Wolff has any true interest in Portland, just like he has no true interest in Oakland despite claiming that he did. San Jose is his entire focus and everything else is a ploy to get there.
That's an HOK designed stadium. If the A's relocated here, HOK will design the stadium. That stadium in that picture will look great in the pearl district (post office site), too.
