i quit my job at a bank last september to go back to school- graduating in late april and have been unsuccessful in reentering the workforce since. the lack of interest in my opinion can be attributed to the bad economy globally and my ethnic name. in fact, the only two interviews i have received was through my school who mandated that the interviewers had to interview the entire graduating class.

    You live in Canada, right?

How bad is the recession up there compared to the states?

not as bad. although, we have a totally ineffective leader, while u guys have a terrific president. just to give u an example of how bad our PM is- i thought i had a job lined with the federal govt but they instituted a hiring freeze in these tough economic times and im still unemployed.

Some of our government agencies have a hiring freeze going on too, I believe. However, the FBI is supposed to be hiring 1,000 new agents over the next two years or something like that.

Just hang on for two or three years and Canada will be able to buy the USA for $.10 on the $1.

No, I don't want it to fail, but I follow the money and see enormous debts being piled up. I don't see how economic expansion is going to overcome the debt.

It has to do with Canada watching its pennies. I wish we were.

Here's something to think about. The numbers.

GDP is $100 for argument's sake. It goes up 3% per quarter for a few years and doubles to $200. What happens when it goes down, like it has, at 6% a quarter? 6% of $200 is $24. $24 is 24% of that original $100.

When govt. spends so much a % of what's left, GDP contracts even more - it has to by definition. At some point, the nation will be in so much debt, people will be happy to get anything on those govt. bonds they bought, they'll sell for that $.1 on the $1.

China's going to own us, or if Canada plays its cards right, they will.

FWIW, I filed my taxes and was supposed to get a refund from the state (California). I got an IOU instead. Maybe it'll be good in September like they promise.

thats a tangent and has nothing to do with me not having a job. the hiring freeze was lifted after i emailed a local columnist and persuaded him to do my bidding on my behalf. and curiously enough they called back after that and told me that another candidate had edged me out even though months earlier they practically promised me the position.
